What happens to your cigar collection when you kick the bucket?

     Good question. My buddy who loves and takes his time to age Havanas, himself is 432 miles away from my home, and my folks probably wouldn't be savvy enough to ease my stash to him. Plus, he's been suffering major health problems himself, and might not even be around to enjoy them long. My brother-in-law and fellow cigar-a-holic is also not likely to be with us too much longer, unfortunately. It's something I will have to hunt down and educate somebody on who's steadfast and responsible to hand them over to.

As in generally or personally? Like any other asset they can be devised in a last will and testament. You can determine what cigar and to whom they are given. Another option would be to leave a note on boxes with people's names/FOH handles/ emails and know your loved ones would get in touch with those people and get your boxes in good hand. Personally, my wife knows all my passwords and is savvy enough to get on here and tell everyone I'm gone and she's having a fire sale. Unluckily for you guys all I have is VRs!

I will give some to my brother-in-law who I'm teaching about cigars and how to take care of them right now.  The rest I will have sold and my wife will donate the money to our local dog shelters.  Hopefully this won't happen for a long time.

I have made arrangements with a couple of knowledgeable BOTLs that will help liquidate my collection in case something happens to me and pass the funds on to my remaining family. It’s a reciprocal agreement.

I am young, let me know if you need someone to leave your stash with. I have no issue taking one for the team Haha. Itll be another 40+ years before I consider where my cigars go. I might have them bury my bourbon with me.

They'll be inherited by my daughter who I'm sure will plan to sell them. I've really no idea though on how to advise her in terms of ensuring that she gets their worth

I’ve been thinking of this lately as well. I’m almost 45 but you never know what will happen the next hour. My son is only 2.5 years old and I don’t have much family. None that would know the worth of my collection. Maybe when the FOH auction opens up for members to sell cigars one could make a text explaining how to go about logging on to your profile and how to sell them to the highest bidder. And how to go about shipping it so that it is received in good condition for the winner of the auction. That way ensuring that heirs could receive a fair price for them. Just a thought ?

You can give your wife my info and I’ll fairly value the whole lot of VR and wipe it out in one go.  I’ll pay my respects at the visitation on the way out of town.  Ha!  Let me know if I need a truck and/or trailer!

It depends on the size of the collection, I suppose. With a collection valued in the 6 digits and containing thousands of cigars (not bragging here), it’s not really an option to just have them sit around for the occasional smoker or for my family to smoke. My wife only smokes Monte junior anyway.

I was just wondering what people would do with them, my wife would have no clue what to do with them, what they are worth or how to take care of them?

I also wondered how many get thrown out due to a persons passing or if they didn’t have a will what happens to them..I heard stories of people buying a whole collections from someone that had no clue about there worth or didn’t care just wanted them gone??

I think I did in some older thread. I store the bulk of my collection in huge igloo coolers and my many open boxes are in a cabinet humidor and a converted cabinet. Nothing fancy.
