Who are your favorite cigar reviewers? I used to like watching Bryan Glynn on YouTube but I've found him to be rather annoying as of late.

I don't normally watch reviews before I smoke a cigar because I like to discover it on my own. I will, however, watch or read about a cigar after i try it to gauge what others get from it.

Anyway, just wondering what your trusted review sources are...other than Rob & Ken of course.

Other than Rob & Ken, I mostly watch FOH members' reviews like JohnS! I also read Havana Insider (James Suckling) for magazines since most of cigar magazines seem to have being influenced too much by their sponsors (especially Cigar Aficionado which should be called Luxury Aficionado instead).

I too thought Bryan Glynn did a decent job of describing a cigar several years ago, but any recent reviews seem to have an underlying “bitter” vibe to them - methinks he does not do well with criticism from the peanut gallery.

I’m a fan of wordsmithing as opposed to video. And love him or hate him, I generally find Katman balances an honest review of a cigar with entertaining wit better than most.

While his reviews focus more on NC’s, more often than not I find his sometimes brutal assessment of a cigar aligns well with my own views.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Dr Joe Show. I know many people thought he was too much but I appreciated his enthusiasm about this hobby. He took a lot of time to prepare his show and kept it entertaining. Also, he took great photographs of his cigars. Got a lot of my beginner knowledge about cigars from him before this forum.

yeah i watched all his videos at first too, he has some good videos on aging cigars, the guy that owns privada cigar club said he learned all about aging from the dr joe show. i still wonder what happened to him, heard he sold off all his cigars and quit for some reason.

I've never had the patience to watch a video review until I found FOH. On written reviewers i like the reviews from Charles Minato and Brooks W from Halfwheel (I prefer those over Brian and Patrick's), William Cooper (Coop Cigar) and Stogie Review

Katman is my favorite read. Hell, I'd enjoy reading his reviews even if I didn't smoke cigars. Brilliant stuff.

I like comparing my review scores to the others on our panel. It creates a lot of passionate debate. Outside of that, Cigar-Coop and Halfwheel are typically what I refer to and compare to.

The man, Laurence Davis of Sautter Cigars. He is the absolute textbook example of how to not smoke a cigar, yet I love his reviews.

If you are a new smoker, it wouldn't be far off to say to do the opposite of him, with regards to smoking. He sloppily gnaws on his cigars, smokes like he is racing to finish and ignites the living hell out of the cigar when lighting it. I question how he can even detect any flavor, he takes dozens of puffs at each draw.  However, I find peace in that everybody has their own style, and to each his own. I will say that I love his commentary, he speaks in a very poetic way. I watch them all.

FoH is truly my favorite, in regards to reviews

@JohnS reviews both posts and video

Reason being he is reviewing most of the CCs I am interested in and including box codes, wrapper colors effects, same marcas from different years. Not getting paid so his reviews are honest based on experience and what he is smoking that day.

Katman I always find humor in as well which makes it interesting and usually well written.

Rob & Ken is entertainment to say the least. A combination of a Dean Martin Comedy Roast and smoking, drinking with your mates. Great stuff.

of course I find the FOH members here also provide great insights and brutally honest reviews. Fairly recently the review competition posted several negative reviews on a specific Marca, including mine.

Bryan Glenn is too sassy for me to watch

... used to love watching Dr Joe but he's obviously MIA, I think his respiratory problems caused him to give up cigars.

Loved these guys, always had me in stitches and their reviews were spot on.

I wonder what happened to them. After effects of the smoking ban maybe?

no...i found out from other UK members that they are alive and well (at least they were a year ago).

It's no surprise many stop...although fun, it's a lot of work

Also believe to have passed away.  There was a recent thread here about that.

I was going to address that rumor also. A lot of peeps think that he passed away, but I know someone who actually did  in depth research and found that no one by his given name had passed away during said time frame. Take that for what it's worth...

"Dave Dude" is good on youtube.    I believe he does some form of work for Min Ron Nee, and he reviews some very rare cigars.
That said, I do find it a little frustrating as he only really refers to flavour profiles in a very few different terms i.e. "toastiness, grassiness, beaniness etc".   Although I really value what he's doing, and he's definitely very humble about his own opinion,   I do find it frustrating, that sometimes I feel none the wiser, about the individual flavours of a cigar he's reviewing.

I like Dave too, but literally every cigar he reviews he thinks needs more age. And I feel like I remember him saying he stores his sticks at 70 and I’m at the opposite end at 58 so I feel we can’t relate anymore.

Dr Joe was an absolute pleasure to watch.

Poolside cigars reviewed was another.

Both, sadly, not active of late.

I watched his review of a Dip 2 and I struggled to tell if he was trying to smoke the cigar or seduce it.  It was hard to watch his “foreplay” approach to it but his commentary was spot on.   It was like Jabba the Hutt meets Prince Charles for a smoke off...
