Silverstix Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I watched a review last night of the SLR Serie A, and Ken mentions stone fruit. I have heard and read this before in other reviews, but I don't think I've ever picked up on that note in a cigar. I'm thinking peaches, cherries, apricots, right? That sounds fantastic, but seems far fetched to me. Maybe I just haven't seen the light yet 1) What cigars typically bring out the most stone fruit notes for you? 2) What are the traits of stone fruit notes to look out for in a cigar?
jcorona Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 One that comes to mind is the mag 50. A sweetness which resembles peach/apricot. 3
Stump89 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I love this flavor in a cigar, deep rich sweetness like apricot, nectarines. SLR serie A aways seems to have stone fruits for me along with a sort of red apple note. Unfortunately serie A are becoming increasingly difficult to find. I find that the Regios aren't quite as fruity. Mag 50s. Maybe RA, but that's more of a stewed fruit/fruitcake. 2
CaptainQuintero Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Yeh you pretty much hit the nail on the head, I think in the reviews Ken leans towards the Apricot/Peach side when mentioning it. Quite a few Cubans have it or different variations. To me: - SLR all have it in buckets, apricot/melon almost - Upmann Mag 50 has that overly ripe apricot/melon/parsimony style fruit to me - Aged regular production Upmann gets peaches and cream - Aged Ramon Allones can be heavy on the peach and cream along with other Christmas cake style flavours - Cohiba ELs seem to try and aim for a peach and cream nature, at least in the first thirds 3
Kaptain Karl Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I've gotten this flavor from RASS, RAS, Connie A's and LGC no 4's. Honestly its probably my favorite flavor I've gotten in CC's. Just delicious. 1
99call Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Mag 50 with 4 to 5 years. Peaches and cream all the way. 2
planetary Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 +1 on the Mag 50. I've gotten it from HQ+ examples, especially. 3
Silverstix Posted March 29, 2019 Author Posted March 29, 2019 Wow really???? I have got to get my hands on a Mag 50 with a few years on it, that sounds incredible
Akela3rd Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I think more of plums or damsons when stone fruit is mentioned. Dark, rich, sweet flavours - got it in spades in an Upmann Connie A last week. Sent from my ActionMan walkie-talkie
earthson Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Apricot - ERdM Demitasse and better examples of the Hoyo Especial line Cherry - RyJ Ex no 4 and Cazadores
Wookie Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I get it in D4 and E2 when they are at their best....deep dark cherry flavor. But only when they are on. RA gives me more of a floral character but way more consistently.

agentdaffy007 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 I remember smoking a SLR A 2001 in 2010. It was delicious with sweetness and apricot flavor. I went back to the store to buy the remaining of the box but someone else snatched it...
alloy Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 LGC MDo2 definitely have that stonefruit flavor. Delicious.
earthson Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 I should have added La Gloria Cubana to the list. I'm only really familiar with the MdO line. Immaculate once aged and definitely fruit, though I haven't smoked enough recently to remember which fruit or how often it appears. I must fix this immediately!
rabidraccoon Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 RA has dark fruits for me like plum and RyJ Chruchills a little cherry
