Which two boxes?

Recommended Posts

My local bar association is running a trip to Cuba this year (last year was the first time they did it and it was such a success they plan to do it annually). Unfortunately, due to the timing I won’t be able to make it this year. However, my friend who is running it agreed to grab me some cigars.

So, that begs the question: what should I ask for?

The only peramiters are that she won’t get more than two boxes for me (watching me bribe customs last year on the way out freaked her out), and she will only shop at the LCDH in the National.

Thoughts?

It would always be custom rolls for me, everything else you can get from Rob with the click of a button.
I think there is usually a roller at the hotel?

There is and she is pretty good. She doesn’t have the reputation of some of the other well know rollers but I’ll often buy some to smoke while I’m in Havana and haven’t been disappointed.

In a perfect scenario I would pre-order some customs at different locations and have her pick them up, but I don’t want her to have to go out of the way at all (she’s staying at the Nacional). I may mention the customs there though - I didn’t grab any last year and I regret it.

She’s Milagro Morales. A very entertaining lady to talk to. I bought some of her Churchills a year ago and I loved them. Still have some ageing so I will revisit them eventually.

QdO54, if they have them (dirt cheap in Cuba) and yeah, Punch DC.

Guess since she was freaked out about the customs process and the whole factura thing, a few bundles of custom rolls wouldn’t work so well.

You’ll get recommendations all over the board from a forum question like this.

My advice is if you have some favorites you like to smoke go for those. If not, then look for some premiums with a good reputation, like Fundadores or Monte Dumas, which were both available at Hotel Nacional when I was there in September.

Another option is to order some customs from Alex or Yolanda and have them delivered to your friend directly at the Hotel. Just give a week or two advance notice, and they will make anything you want.

Also, bear in mind that unless your friend is experienced in inspecting cigars, you will have no idea what she will bring back in terms of quality, or bugs.

I would say customs and/or two boxes of your favorite cigars. They are cheaper there for the most part. If they have the 50 cab do that. You'll save money on that. Maybe get the more expensive marcas that you know are closer to half price compared to most other places.
