What would you do if....

Recommended Posts

Another post got me thinking,  what would you do if tomorrow your entire collection of cigars that you have been collecting for years disappeared? And you had to start from scratch. Whether by theft, fire, flooding etc. What would be the first box or boxes you would start over with. (Once you got over the empty feeling in the pit of your stomach, and stopped crying)

I second the Partagas Shorts. It is one of my all time faves. The second would be the Monte PE. Both of those cigars have rarely let me down.

I'd go cheap and cheerful until I could really commit to replenishing everything. Few boxes of PLP and RGP to start, maybe some RG Perlas or Party PCE. Can get a lot of bang for your buck out of these sticks while focusing on everything else.

Interesting question.  I would start with H U Mag 46, can usually find a sub $200 box, maybe Punch Punch, Party D4 and PLPC.  Would probably try to lay out 500-600 bucks on 100 sticks to give me  cushion to build back up.

Wouldn't be the end of the world for me since I only started buying boxes in May. I probably only have about 300 cigars stored right now.

I'd start with the following on Monday clearance:

CoRo

D4

Epi 2

RASS

Vigia

Short Churchill

Party shorts

Lusitania

Monte 2

Why - I'D LOSE MY MIND :tantrum:   I'd GO CRAAAAZY!!!!   DEATH! DEATH!  To EVERYBODY - DEATH :forkyou:   GRRRR - GRRRR...

THEN...begrudgingly start from scratch again. If allowed to be mentioned here - I'd probably have to start with Mitchell Orchant (I've got some prized very aged and discontinued Habanas), 20 year old Montecristo A's and one Davidoff Habana pigtail, one Che pyramide, and so on). Then the search and prayer for appropriate funds to re-stock - OOOOOOOOHHHH There goes that murderous rage again...GRRRRR

I agree! You would probably find me in the corner of the room in the fetal position, rocking back and forth, and talking to myself!

No big deal, worst has happened in life. As an entrepreneur, you sort of get numb to the whole world crashing down around you. You pick yourself up and start all over again.

Now to the strategy, don't know what box I would buy. Probably what looks good on 24:24, then plan a trip to Cuba with a bunch of non-smokers and replenish all the customs that were lost. Rinse and repeat.

I recently lost half of approximately a 700 cigar collection I’d been working on for about 3 years due to unforeseen casualty. Mostly half and quarter boxes I was trying to age. So the wrong half.

I’m trying to think of something funny, or ironic, or clever to say about it. It doesn’t exist. The only positive thing, if you can call it that, is the sense of loss made me realize how much I actually enjoy collecting and smoking. I wouldn’t have been as upset if my garage collapsed and totaled my motorcycle. Or if my camera was dropped and I had to replace it.

It’s like a hobby +, a good cigar is unbelievable in its own right. But they’re also both mementos of great experiences in addition to potential unknown positive future experiences.

Maybe I’m reading into it too much. But losing half my collection was like 350 past and future kicks in the balls coming at once.

My 2 cents. That being said, on a quasi rebuild I took the opportunity to order a sample of approx 20 singles I’ve had my eye on for a while and a box of JL2s that I absolutely love as my first orders from FOH. Guilt free. Haha.

We definitely have different views, I would rather my car get stolen and sent to a chop shop! At least insurance would replace. I have a Lot of vintage and collectors items that are irreplaceable no matter how much money you have. (Plus my cigars are prob worth more than my car)

We are saying the same thing. I’d rather my garage collapsed and destroyed car/motorcycle/etc. . .Easier to replace and I don’t enjoy them as much.

I concur, my cigars are worth more than my first house.
