Here is the situation. Since childhood, I have been a dental patient anxiety case. Nose gas, even for cleaning. Not just for myself, but to spare the nice hygienist from the pain and suffering of taking care of my ordinary, everyday teeth.

Last Friday, in the larger town down the highway from ours, I had significant dental surgery at a very kind and competent Endodontist. His awards, articles and certificates on the walls were matched by his vocabulary and friendly staff. Besides, I was going to be knocked out. Go for it.

Here is where the desperate passion for Cuban cigars comes in, my FOH. This procedure means I cannot smoke cigars for two weeks. I usually smoke almost every day. Sometimes more than one.

We are in the city, over two hours south of where we live. I went to visit friends where I like to smoke, drink beer and work on my computer and chat all afternoon.

I went just so I would smell their cigars and stink when I got home.

And there you have it. True confession.

i'm rather proud to say that i have been told by dentists, on three continents, that i am the worst patient that they have ever had.

one was a family friend which caused some problems. comparing him to butchers and the kommandant of auschwitz (might have been a smidge extreme) strained relations but to this day, i still remember his 'this might hurt a tiny bit' being like the lava-tipped spear from satan on a bad day, going through the back of my head. to this day, the worst pain i have ever experienced.

not sure what i'll do now. my usual dentist has just retired. part of the fishing and wine lunch crew so knew me well. i used to pay in wine.

I punched my dentist.  It was involuntary.  Root canal. he drilled deep but the painkiller didn't  take due to other medication I was on at the time.

Good bloke Dr. Soni.  Took it on the chin (so to speak).  We both shed a tear. :lookaround:

My childhood dentist went to prison for giving kids braces and corrective surgery when they didn’t need them. I remember my Mum telling me to grow up when I said I thought he was an evil man. A few years later, lo and behold.

Sounds a lot like our parish priest!  Fr Neil roused on me for not permitting one of my kids  to go on church camp. Lo and behold, off to court for downloading child porn.

well, your sort.

what do you mean?

confessed i'd brought the cards - i saw nothing wrong with that. copped such a bollocking.

I've not had a cigar for about 4 weeks, as i'm having a few health checks, weirdly one of the depressing factors is, there is a certain level of addiction that has left the system.

I don't feel this physically, but I know I think less (only slightly less Ha!) about cigars.

It draws to mind how strange smoking can be. As a cigarette smoker, whenever I gave up, years of months later, I knew I almost had to smoke my way back into the saddle (so to speak). i.e. the first couple of cigarettes would taste disgusting (because they were) but after about 5-6, the day after the morning smoke with cup of coffee and paper, was just wonderful.     Very counter intuitive ........very strange.

whats going to be your first smoke back? RGCE?

Even though I rarely get sick, I absolutely LOVE those first couple of cigars after I get better. I'd imagine it would be the same in this situation. I recently had a cold for about 10-14 days and didn't smoke at all. I couldn't taste much of anything during that time period either. But wow, the first couple of cigars (5 yr old RG Perla then Connie A) were amazing. I could taste every little flavor and the smell was absolutely intoxicating.

Anyway, hope your healing is going well!

Believe it or not, I worked as a Camp Councelor when in college. One day, the Director called me in for a “chat”. He didn’t’ ask me to sit down, just tossed an envelope across his desk. It was a letter home from one of my campers. He’d addressed the envelope to Mom and Dad, Minneapolis. I laughed and said I knew who had sent it and I’d get it sorted. In a strangled voice, he said “Read it!”

Dear Mom and Dad,

I am having a great time. My councilor’s name is Bucko. He is really funny. Last night he said if we didn’t quiet down, he would make us all sopranos.

Love,

Joey

PS Mom, if you don’t know what means, he is going to cut our balls off!

I did manage to finish out the summer but the Director needed to take some leave...

Probably something good I hope, but perhaps small to start. We have these  Upmann Mag 48’s from 2009. Tasty, rare and small to just get rockin’ with a lovely cold beer.

Then, when the Allman Brothers are playing, perhaps a RA 2011 Extra. And some bourbon.

That ought to get us back to normal don’t you think?

I’ve had the exact same experience. By the way, this is day four without a cigarette for me. So far, I’m going strong!

Wonderful support you guys. The stitches are dissolving and even though there is some pain, I have only taken regular Advil the whole time. Blecccchh.

Top and bottom gums are covered with this rubbery stuff. It is gums top and bottom repair on the right side. In a couple of months, he will do the left side. Pretty common I understand at my age, 57. Best thing was he said nothing to do with cigars.

Sometimes they take tissue from the roof of your mouth. They did not, so much easier healing. Next half, who knows.

Going to South Beach, Florida on Saturday and should be close to normal by then. Except no smoking! ??
