I try to turn mine at least twice a year, but there are a lot of them.

what do you consider the optimum interval to turn them ?

Never.  The thought of putting the lit end in my mouth frightens me.

One full rotation over the course of 365.25 days.

I didn't even know that was a thing

If you turn them then, predominantly in boxes rather than cabs, the front of the bands won't be visible and nicely lined up. I like that look so no turning for me.

It’s not an unheard of thing by any measure. I don’t do it, simple too lazy to turn a couple thousand sticks, but I could potentially see the thinking behind it. Idea being not to let parts of the cigar get stuck in its micro climate for years. I just don’t think the potential rewards justify the effort.

I move cigars into rotation for smoking or to condense the number of boxes in a humidor.

I do have a thought. Couldn't you just turn a whole box a quarter turn four times a year for the same virtual benefit?

I started off doing that, but then I switched to studded snows for the winter months and completely lost track.

Glad you asked.  Turning (or 'rotacion sensualmente' in the local Cuban parlance), is perhaps the most critical element of cigar aging.  Aficionados will argue endlessly about whether one washes one's hands first or not and whether the process should be performed in strong or dim light.  The best, aged cigars I've ever enjoyed were rotated monthly behind and immediately adjacent to the kitchen exhaust of an unlicensed Cuban pollo restaurant under the dark of the new moon.

I was thinking of trying the same method, but then found another buddy was secretly having his collection rolled over by a torcedora named Esmerelda on her thighs . . . and well . . . that just sounded so much more professional . . . ?

We have to keep up with temperature, humidity, box date, box code and now we have to keep a rotation schedule. Somehow this is taking the fun out of cigars.

I make sure mine all face North, then no rotation required.
