Growing up in Hawaii, my go-to’s are Saimin/Ramen, Lau Lau/Lomi Salmon/Poi, and of course - spam musubi (I actually prefer the chicken version).

FYI, the Hapa Ramen at Star Noodle in Lahaina is the pinnacle of hangover/comfort food.

Homemade tacos in the spring and summer..

Homemade chili and the NFL in the fall.

Perhaps the ultimate comfort food is Julia Child's Cassoulet for a Crowd in winter. It's a real project, but oh, so worth the time and effort. The recipe is a small book.

Fried catfish and okra like my Nana used to make. Fried chicken.

Any type of braised beef (shortribs, oxtails, pot roast) over egg noodles.

When I travel abroad, I find myself missing hot links on a bun with mayo, BBQ sauce and fresh red onion.

Cajun seasoned pork neckbones or turkey wings slow cooked in the Crock-Pot with a bag of purple hull peas lately. Rest of the time...fried chicken, pork chops or BBQ ribs with Mac and cheese, turnip or mustard greens, black eyed peas and corn bread. Yeah, all that good stuff that shoots your blood pressure through the roof. Fried catfish, plenty of hot sauce and mustard. Cabbage and pinto beans. Ox tails. Ahhhh now I'm hungry.

For me it's gonna be pork sisig--a Filipino comfort food dish that is pork jowls (face), ears, and liver that is boiled, broiled, then grilled to extra crispy, then garnished with egg, calamansi, onions, and topped with fried pork skin.  If I could eat this every day with some garlic rice, I would definitely die quickly (but happy).

I will also strongly recommend Pepperfire and Prince's. No matter what, you're standing in a line.

True that!  Those are great places too.  I hate standing in line but I will do most anything for some hot bird....

I have a few but depends on the cuisine...

American: Grilled cheese sandwich (american cheese only), fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collared greens with side of corn bread.

Hawaiian: loco moco with side of macaroni salad, and spam musubi.

Japanese: Tamago gohan ( literally translates to egg rice.  Beaten raw egg and soy sauce over steamed white rice), Nekomanma (Miso soup with steamed white rice), curry rice, and Ramen.

Chinese: Lu Rou fan (Soy stewed pork belly and hard boiled egg on steamed white rice) and fried rice.

Mexican: Menudo

Moon Pies for dessert??

Haha! Yeah, next on the list.

For those not in the know...take 2 scoops of sticky white rice (the kind you’ll get with any respectable local plate lunch) , put 2 hamburger patties on that, then a couple of over-medium eggs, then top the whole mountain with brown gravy. Loco Moco.

The Loco Moco at a place very near the Kahului Airport called Da Kitchen is the bomb. But you better be hungry. And taking a nap is the next thing you’ll remember.

Call ahead, carry out! I wish fried chicken was more health-supporting, cuz then I'd eat it every week.

Been a couple of months, so it's Bolton's chicken today.

No one has mentioned Chicken Fried Steak.  Another American great.  Not served with an honor in the northeast, but in the TOLA region it reigns supreme!!!  Could go for some right now.
