Ken Gargett Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 now, it may become clear in some recent videos that i am still waiting for rob to arrive with the promised talismans to review. no spoilers of course, as to if or when this will ever happen (get in line behind those unicorns, please), but if it does, wondering what members might like to see us match them with. i know whipcrack will arrive and immediately look for a red but if these are such special smokes, perhaps we could avoid stuffing them up for once. all thoughts welcome.
IPORTER Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I reckon a crisp IPA/summer ale for the 1st third to wash the palate followed by an Islay single malt, Lagavulin for example 4

99call Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Could we see a Christmassy Old fashioned? I'm thinking as the base ingredients being PX barrelled Glendronach and some of that special PX you have (the one that came with the little vial). 2

SMQQKIN Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 A big Russian Imperial Stout to complement a rich cigar. 2

99call Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 The Chateau De Breuil line of calvados is brilliant, Christmassy rich indulgent. and the older stuff is not overtly 'appley', rather full of buttery spiced burnt caramel. With lots of floral stuff going on too. It's also not cloying, thick or sickly sweet in anyway Just a thought, http://chateau-breuil.biz/boutique/en/6-our-calvados

gweilgi Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Since beer is a no-no (strange fellow) and there is no calvados in the house (another strange fellow), what about some cider?
Wertman Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I would say a Buffalo Bills Jersey. Truly though I know I'm no fun but maybe a Pepsi or Diet Pepsi for those of us who don't drink.
anacostiakat Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Bourbon of course! Either neat or make yourself a holiday Manhattan! Easy to make and easy too drink. 1 1
Fugu Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Stay with water / coffee / tea (Darj., Chinese green) / or perhaps a mojito if the weather fits - really keen in your thoughts of the cigar, not the drink, boys. Sorry for the ascetic proposal. 3
godpheonix Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 how about i nice bottle of champagne? if not. i'd just go with a nice Cuban Rum. they both come from the same soil, should complement each other. i'd name a few but i'm sure you have a nice selection of rum from Havana! ;-) 3
SirVantes Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 You're looking for a worthy supporting act that will allow the cigar to sing, without diverting you with too many assertive notes, so I'd suggest the best hors d'age cognac you have.
Guest Nekhyludov Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Souchong lapsang tea, with a wedge of lemon and a pinch of sugar.
CrankYanker Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Ken I never thought you were going to be so picky. Either rum, bourbon or a single malt scotch. Water is fine too but that doesn't make it fun
Jfeath74 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I personally love imperial/hazy/unfiltered ipa’s with Cohibas. I find the citrus notes that most of those style beers have are a pairing dream with Cohiba. That said I see above el pres won’t be on board with that option, so I would go with the finest spirit on hand. For me that would be a pour of WhistlePig 12 year rye. 1
JamesKPolkEsq Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I'd think that a nice, clean mineral water (sparkling) with a shot of lime would open up your tasters just a bit and not mask any of the nuances of a sublimely overpriced cigar... 1
zeedubbya Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Something sparkling (Sparkling Shiraz or Champagne) and a dram of really good rum. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Smokin911 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Foursquare rum, either neat or with a cube. Foursquare is one of only a few rum producers that don't add extra sugar or coloring to their products. Great stuff, and the real spirit. A nice bourbon would work also.....barrel proof Four Roses would be an excellent option.

IanMcLean68 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 How about this idea, its the right timing for it too. You could do a review of the 2017 vintage Four Pillars Australian Christmas Gin. I am impressed with it myself. It paired really well for me with a RA Club Allones last week.
Islandboy Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 What else but Talisker single malt? Silly boy. 1
finecigar Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Might sound crazy but I would go with a vintage sauternes or tokaji. Recently paired a 2001 Rieussec with a Cohiba Sublimes and it was a match made in heaven. I am more and more enjoying the contrast of the delicate honey, mushroom, earthy sweetness with the flavors of a havana 1
