Two days ago, HSA released the info about two cigars that are supposed to be released in 2016 according to CCW. The packaging reminds me the old days of CC (aluminium tin with retro styled font)...

Okay, I like PCs and I even like the tin...

What does H SA advertise? The tin... Not a picture of the cigars. That is what they sell, right? Cigars?

Tabacuba, the cigar 'box' company!

I doubt the selling point is the cigars themselves, no? I would buy them for the novelty, not for the cigars themselves. if the cigars are handrolled, they can't be that bad imo.

That was my point... They are a 'cigar' company, or they used to be.

Maybe they should just sell the tins... At least they look like they can pass a QC standard! -LOL

Lovely boxes! And too bad they didn’t go for the full robusto on Quai D’Orsay but I’ll try it.

more bling and less substance, as usual.

did you REALLY expect anything else ?

next it will be a double banded tin.......or a Limited tin.

Anejados tin ?

GRAN RESERVA TIN !!    :whip:

I have no problem with interesting presentation and novel packaging formats. However, they can keep all of it if it if the cigars suck. As Piggy's noted in the past if I can get a discount for a plain bundle of excellent cigars ship 'em and keep your tins, boxes and bands.

I think they're awesome. Obviously, the cigars have to be legit, but I'm looking forward to them. I am curious to know how the Club Kings slot in with the current RyJ PCs in terms of blend. Curious to see how the Capitols compare to the other, cheaper PCish Partys (Mille Fleurs, PCEs, Coronas Senior, etc.). I expect they'll be more expensive, but I hope they're priced in that normal PC range, and offer something different. I mentioned before in Habana Mike's thread that I could easily see myself buying and taking these out with me on the go.

Does anyone have any memories of these cigars from back in the day?

These are

Retro as in something from the past revisited....they made these tins 50 years ago and are bringing them back. I think it's kind of cool myself.

Here's the original Capitols >

And they are a reasonable ring gauge and length!

... don't get me wrong Mike, I like them myself. When I followed the link, I found that the 'tin' was advertised and not the cigar itself! I have long since claimed that Tabacuba is now a box company... I do believe that.

For me, well I would have at least attempted to recreate a 'smoking' experience from the past and included it in advertising. I would have made sure that smokers understood that the 'cigars' were special.

Of course, they could have saved themselves a heap of trouble here. They could have made no tins, and some yellow ribbon, left off the bands and given us pack the venerable Partagas PC in 50 cabs. That would have been my choice, but what the hell, I just smoke cigars, my opinion does not matter!!!

Like NSX sez, I too would buy some of these for the novel and handy packaging; assuming they came with cigars I liked (PC, CG, Corona from Upmann, Punch, Partagas).  I mostly go shopping for cabs for all the obvious reasons (aging), but about 10-20% of the time I'll buy my faves when I see them in a tubo.  It too is a different aging experiment and these little 5-packers would be a great grab-and-go format.

Do my eyes deceive me or are those Capitols wrapped in cellophane?

No - but those you are referring to are the original Capitols as stated by Habana Mike. (and for anybody slightly versed in engineering it is clear that these two packagings have not too much in common....)

I understand your point now sir and certainly agree, particularly regarding the cabs!

While waiting for them to arrive at shops, I managed to get hold of a few of these. Don't care much about the beef, but I love those classic, colourful tins....

I think what some fail to realize, is that between Tabacuba and our governments, we could make a whole sitcom about tobacco smoking, and the 'powers' that control it...! -LOL

I've been fantasizing about a retro program for a while. Por Larrañaga magnums, Upmann lonsdales and the slenderella would all make me very, very happy.

I hope that we can see other discontinued CCs under the new Retro programme soon (with quality of course) :)

They do look great, and a new release of Petit coronas is something to celebrate.

It seems like the prophesy is correct though: delete cigars then bring back at a later date at a much higher price.

Petit coronas being referred to as a novelty says everything you need to know about the way things are going to be.

But still, I do like them.

Some diplomatic Lanceros were cello wrapped too I think?
