topdiesel Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 I hope all of our Sonoma County Brothers and Sisters are OK. I have family in Santa Rosa and my cousin chose not to evacuate and had to put out small fires in his yard (he lives about a mile from that burned out Hilton in the article below). It is crazy to see a fire burn through a city of that size. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/10/us/california-fires-maps-photos.html 1
Philc2001 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 God bless those who are in this fire's reach. I can't imagine the agony and grief of watching your property being consumed by this fire, much less the loss of life from this tragedy. Be safe all. 1
TNT009 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Absolutely scary.... Weird how the South has hurricanes, Mid-West has tornadoes and the West has earthquakes and fires... Been through three major fires in San Diego and its scary as hell, literally! Hope they get them under control asap!
Lotusguy Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 With all due respect - your cousin is a fool for not evacuating. 15 dead and counting - this is serious stuff

madandana Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Devastating. So much of it lately. Makes some of our problems seem so small.
OZCUBAN Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Stay safe people we here in OZ are all to familiar with the threat of Bush fires /wild Fires ? ver here in the west we do prescribed Burns during the late winter early spring it helps keep the fuel load to a minimum above all else if told to evacuate LEAVE you can’t fight a fire of that ferocity
PapaDisco Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 We have friends losing weekend homes left and right. I'm particularly appalled at the Santa Rosa situation. I'm sure I don't understand fire fighting logistics, but what the heck? This is a big city with a hydrant on every corner! Hook on a hose and open the valves for god's sake!

Only so many hoses brother. Hope all safe and sorry for the losses....

It's not the lack of hoses, but the amount of fires spread throughout a large portion of the north bay. Only so many firefighters to spread across the area. Coupled with crazy winds and it was devastating even to such a big city with many hydrants. 1

I'm not an expert on this, or even well read, but from what I heard this fire is consuming an area the size of a football field every 3 seconds. It's not just that it destroys everything in its path, but much of the things in its path are actually more fuel. I don't think pouring some water on this fire will do much to stop it.

They couldn’t keep up with the 70mph winds, high temps, and single digit humidity...fire spread extremely fast. So sad....
Popular Post Ptowncigar Posted October 11, 2017 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2017 I was deployed out to Santa Rosa last night. Total devastation in certain areas. Believe me the fire department is doing all they can do. SFPD 7 1

First Lady Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 My heart aches for these poor people, too lose everything in such a way and have no chance to save anything . Thoughts to everyone with family and friends on the area and to all Fire fighters I am in awe of what you do 1
NorCalAaron Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Hard to imagine this could hit so close to home. I woke up with the smell of smoke in the air and thought our home was on fire, we are just south in Petaluma. Thoughts and prayers for everyone here!!
BrightonCorgi Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 The pictures are just awful. So devastating. Going to be a vintage for the history books for those that will have one. I wonder how the fire will change vineyards? Portugal deals with forest fires almost every year in the Douro.
Lotusguy Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 The smoke down here in the South Bay - over 100 miles away - is very noticeable. This is one for the history books and my thoughts are with all affected.
Danimalia Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Yeah, it's been incredibly smokey here in the East Bay and at my work on the Peninsula. Just devastating. 21 dead last I heard. To all my North Bay/Wine Country brothers: Stay safe! You're in my thoughts. 1
PapaDisco Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Just drove back from our friend's vineyard up there. Water bombers all over the place, smokey and gusty. We stretched soaker hoses over all of the building roofs and set out a small army of sprinklers (particularly around the propane tanks! ). Hope it all holds!
