We have to get the embargo lifted first:wacko:

No, please not that !

What would QC be like if there was a drastic & rapid immediate increase in demand ? I shudder at the thought.

Things are fine for now, just the way that they are IMO.

I agree. This whole article is about lifting the embargo because the demand in the US and the cigar market that could be captured by companies. I never once said I agreed with the article.

With some of the rubbish coming out of Havana right now, there is no way in Hell they could ever supply the US. Nobody would buy cigars with wrappers that looked like they were made out of binder leaves. Aside from that the embargo is firmly in place and US relations with Cuba are most likely reverting back to the way they were prior to Obama's executive actions.

Took the words right out of my mouth Ray. Besides, there are so many cigar shop owners who tell everyone who will listen about how the nc Romeos and cohibas are better anyway. It's kind of a shame. I swapped bands on a nc Churchill with a legit rj Churchill and gave it to this loud mouth 20 year old guy at my lounge. Gave him the Cuban version pretending it was the nc, and lit up the nc pretending it was the Cuban myself. Tell him how mine is better bc it's Cuban. He asks for a taste and immediately says that he hates Cuban cigars so it's no surprise that mine tastes flat, like it has no nicotine. Nope, nothing like his genuine nc Romeo, which as everyone knows is about as good as a cigar can get. I had a good laugh at his expense later that afternoon when I told him what i had done.

Sadly, there are so many people here in the USA that have plenty of money, and would buy anything that said "made in Cuba". It could be a total piece of crap, but they would buy and smoke because it's Cuban and expensive.
I agree, if the embargo was lifted, I suspect it might take a while to get the brand ownership sorted out, but in no way could the any semblance of quality be maintained with the pressure to fulfill the demand.

The only way I see a drastic increase in production and maintaining or improving quality would be to bring back a capitolist market.  The Cuban government skims too much of the profits and doesn't reinvest enough in infrastructure or land improvements.  If they allowed the farms and factories to be owned by individuals and private companies the capitol would flood in for improvements if the taxes were kept reasonable.  Could you imagine investing in a Cuban tobacco farm like people invest in wineries in Napa Valley?

As long as the communist rule and govern there is no hope.

Isn't it ironic that Cuba missed the boat on taxing the $hit out of tobacco?  The EU and Australia beat them to it, to the point of drastically cutting demand.

Frankly - and this may not be very popular - fact is of the last 30, 40 or so sticks I smoked (across diff. vitolas and years), there hasn't been one true dud. Can't remember a single one having had construction problems, and can count them on one hand for the last two years (perhaps a simple matter of selecting the right vitolas...), and not one with more than slight burn issues. Also yet to see the poor wrappers Rob is reporting about. Seems I am living happily on a different planet....:cigar:

Embargo spelled backwards is O grab me!

May sound selfish here, but as one who enjoys his Cubans, this American is in no particular hurry to see it lifted.
