El Presidente Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Cigar stock tips ....what to dump/pass, what to buy.....what's hot and what's not. From a lover's perspective...maybe even from a flipper/investor perspective (then again they are not necessarily mutually exclusive). What are you buying now...and why? What are you selling or avoiding now....and why? My buy for the month: AMO Partagas Serie E 2. Not only are they a brilliant cigar (the most complex of all Partagas) but the demand for AMO E2 outstrips supply 20:1. Fonseca Number 1. Well priced, tasty as hell and it's a Lonsdale!!! Brilliant quality Montecristo Media Corona. If you are a chocolate/cocoa/cream whore.....you have found your mistress. Quality is outstanding. Pass or sell for th emonth Monte 2. Where did they find all that yellow wrapper. Vegas Robaina Unicos. Most look like they have used binders as wrappers. HDM Anejado Hermosos Number 4. I am the cheapest in the world on them (well...excluding fakes sellers) ....and I still have some let us know what is hot and what is not for you
Puros Y Vino Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Good question. I've been in a bit of a buying drought for the past year or so, but it's starting to pick up and the things that interest me are..... Punch Punch 50 cabs or SLB's. HTF in Canada. Everytime I've had one it's been a one off here or there gifted from a friend and everytime. I enjoyed it immensely. So, time to finally stock up and go deep. Partagas 898. Love the vitola, love the cigar. I went deep, but they disappeared for months. Wondering if they're back in stock and how well they're smoking. I need to stockpile more. HUHC. Never thought I'd like these smaller vitolas. The blend is delicous and the size makes for a nice 30 minute smoke on my lunch break or a walk. Avoiding. Chasing down EL and RE (with the exception of an odd few like Italian and Cuban RE's and anything that falls in my lap). The frenzy on them as well as LCDH releases for the "flippers" gets on my nerves. If they're good smokes I'd like to find out on my own , close to the Cuba price. Not by overpaying to a profiteer. I'm at peace with missing out TBH. I have a lot of cigars I can reach for that will make my day/night. BHK. I have enough from 2011/12.Haven't heard great things from 2014 on. They've aged into a sweet spot I'm enjoying. No need to buy more. Big, fat RG cigars. That's the trend and I'm not into it. There might be something coming out that will appeal to me that might get me to bite but for the most part. I'm done with jawbreakers. 1
dvickery Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I don't sell ( and what I buy I usually put away for a few years)... so why am I responding on this thread ??? just a little something to add to franks picks/post ... when I was in Havana last November ... just about every morning I had either an upmann half corona or a monty media corona (about 3 of each) ... winner was the upmann half corona . Although cosmetically the monty was a "prettier" smoke . there you go ... all I know about buying/selling young smokes. derrek
ElJavi76 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Not a seller by any means but high on MEG Connie A's Vigias are killing it along with big brother Topes. The Vigias are so complex. Dance around your palate with a kaleidoscope of flavors. I'm deep on E2's. In my top 3 smokes all year. Out on anything to heavily demanded like Monte 2's, and avoiding paying for Siglo VI's. Too many other stix with that large format at half the price. It's not that I don't have / smoke any, but not actively pursuing any at this time. Cheers and happy smoking El Javi
Bartolomeo Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Buying: AMO/UAO PSD4, Serie E, Cohiba....can't go wrong with any of these from EL VR DA from 15-17, smoking a ton of them in last 6 months and great for a freshie out of the box TOS Dip 2, Fuerza, Monte 2 Certain HDM, Dip Bushidos, SP Enslavo, as much 2013 cigars as I can find Customs when I have a mule involved, not from 3rd parties Famosos, Regios, Upmann 2, Choix, Conn A, San Juan, Punch Punch have all been hit and miss from 15-16 boxes Went deep on OR Picadores boxes from late Summer 2014 Think very highly of Monte 80 down the road, I think they nailed this blend but a waste to smoke now Always like trying new RE but end up flipping most w a few exceptions Not Buying: Bought then sold b/c I didn't like them and think they are hit and miss: Punch 48, HDM Elegantes, SLR Marquez, Edmundo Dante Beli Never have bought Behikes since 2010 as I think this cigar is overrated since the first 5 months of release, poser smoke IMHO Dont buy P2, Monte DE, EL boxes, boxes from Spain w/ a few exceptions, Anejado program is a joke Lots of garbage being sold on Facebook cigar groups but some occasional deals/gems Bart 1
thecrowder Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Buying: Trinidad Vigias! Siglo V tubos I'm avoiding everything else so that I can buy more Vigias 1

Curious about the head to head. Cheers, Javi

Cheers, Javi Upmann is more dark coffee and biscuit. Monte media is more milk coffee, cocoa and cream. Both very good. Both very different. 1

So many lousy-looking 99/00/01 cigars being sold/auctioned. Those groups used to be pretty good but not a whole lot showing up there anymore... I'm very keen to try an AMO E2 but keep seeming to miss out. Not the end of the world, I have a 5-box of '13s that is smoking nicely right now! 3
Lotusguy Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 The suckers on FB get taken with 99-01 stock from Greece, Cyprus, and Spain. It blows my mind. There's a reason that stuff has been picked over and over again. Caveat emptor. I've slowed my buying way down. Still getting the odd RE box here and there when I can find them duty free or for MSRP. I'll go deep on the PL Corona RE Alemana when it comes out, though. Otherwise, I'm mostly replacing boxes that I finished and liked. Don't really care if they are freshies. By the time I get to them, they will be 5+ years old. LCDH exclusives continue to be mostly hits for me. 3 1

Buys for me (I'm talking really recent stuff not necessarily my usual favourites): 1. Trinidad vigia (want to hate them for the size/price but they taste great) 2. Siglo 2 (again with the price but they are pure honey) 3. Punch Punch 48's - so good and enjoy the size and the 10 count box buy. I would buy in 25's though. TBH I prefer these to the normal punch punch, sacrilege I know. Sells/dumps: 1. 15 and 16 stock with crappy wrappers and under filled. 13/14 boxes were just winner after winner.

SloppyJ Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I only have one that is a must buy on my hit list. It's OBM 2016 Lusis. I got some from the 24:24 last year and they are spectacular. I will be searching for more. It was my first time sampling a Lusi, maybe they're all that good but I know the 10 box I got is delicious. I have one AMO E2 that's in my singles drawer thanks to a friend on here. Still waiting to bust that one out.
Lotusguy Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 A comment from me on the Vigia: I love them but they very frequently suffer from underfilling and loose draws (at least 2016 stock did - haven't seen 2017s). I would not buy these blindly.
David88 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I always find this type of thread interesting, it's good to know what current production people are enjoying! Im off the Beirut in a few weeks and I plan to make a few cigar purchases so I will add some of these to my list!
Santiago Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 This is why I buy from trusted sources who showcase quality before i buy, too much variation out there sometimes
canadianbeaver Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 We have been loving 2016 Monte 2's from here. Go figure. SC El Principe Cohiba Medio Siglo No thank you: Cohiba Siglo 1 Upmann 50's (turns out they are just too big!)
madandana Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I don't plan on buying anything. I'm a 24-24 junky and can't say no when a good deal comes along. Monti PE, Monti 2, Party Lusti, RyJ Churchill, Wide Churchill,Short Churchill, #4, Monti 4, and whatever else make my mouth water. Nothing to fancy as I'm not very well refined and I don't taste a huge difference. When I go to Cuba I will buy a lot of customs. I don't sell anything. If I don't like them....I let them sit and maybe some day I will like them. 2
Fugu Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 My current assets are (multiple boxes): MdO4 (I am simply subscribed to them) Monte Espies and Esp 2s BCG Reyes Sig III RASCC PLM HUM RGP Not buying: Punch 48, HDM Elegantes, Vigía, Topes, Medio Siglo, Mag 54, Connie B ...well, you get it....
Buck14 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Thumbs Down: SLR REGIOS The worst CC I've ever smoked. Good construction, good draw, good burn. No taste at all. No aroma. At the top of garbage pile for non smoking friends who wanna try a CC.
