You can go through a flat period in cigars. Little or no spark, mostly average ....some OK.

If the situation persists you can start questioning your own palate or storage conditions or even health (cold/bug/flu).

Do you have that special box or boxes (if you are lucky) that are guaranteed to remind your palate how bloody spectacular a cigar can be? Call it a "control" or "reset" box.

It doesn't have to be expensive...just  a box that has generally been spectacular.  One that you know what to expect from and cigars that hit your personal sweet spot.

I have a few such "reset boxes".  Particularly some 2003 CORO and of the same year Des Dieux. I needed to get out of  a "funk" today and the CORO was reached for. Sublime. All is right in the cigar world again. Perfect balance, cream, honey, coffee and class. left the palate singing.

The rest are now put away for the next "break glass in cigar emergency" moment. :ok:

I definitely know what you mean. The recent 24:24 offering of PMS Abr 15 Rafael Gonzalez Perlas have served as my 'reset' box at the moment. Each cigar from the box has hit stride quickly from the first puff. The other box I go for to 'reset' is my EML Abr 15 San Cristobal de La Habana El Principe box. They just regularly deliver.

For me it's the punch ss#1 or any of the royal selection 11 or 12

strangely enough both discontinued and rolled in days gone by when Habanos seem to have a vague idea of what they were doing ? Just saying ?

When I was working (retired Jan '12) I used to get a "funky" taste after going a few days without a cigar .

Los statos deluxe brevas were the answer ... they were my "Friday night" go to cigar for a couple of years .

Havent smoked one for a year or two now .

At the monent, i would have to say a box of Esplendidos from 2010. Only 7 or 8 left, but when I really need to relax and reset, they do it for me. 2 hours of bliss, curl your toes good.

Trinidad 2007 Robusto Extra, blows my socks off every time I have one along with 2012 RASS.

I have a couple boxes of 09 CoLas that are reserved for "reset" smokes and also Christmas Day Smokes
Halfway through the first box and about 1/4 through the second. They've always delivered

This can be truly maddening to relative newbies like myself.  You start questioning everything and start doing stupid things ("what if i kick the RH to 68%?").

A local B&M owner suggested that certain times of the year are notorious for triggering this.  In these parts, late winter when there's a lot of grime in the air from melted snow.

Partagas Serie E2. I don't have the palat that some of you have. This cigar, or at least my box is always a winner. I traded some a while back and regretted it immediately.

I have a box of 2014 SCDLH La Fuerza. While not a 'premium' cigar, it never fails to hit the mark. The molasses flavor goes so well with a drop of nice rum too.

One of the cigars that I wished I went heavily on. Beautiful currently.

A '14 box of JLS#2's, just stupid good!

I agree with you. Even 15 and 16 in quality just reminds you of the base goodness of Cuban cigars.

I gave one to Stan on the deck Friday. It was a 16. Mind you I picked it for him and it was his first JLS2 being normally  a Monte 2 or Monte Especial man.

"How long has this been going on" was all he could say.

For a retailer....for a lover of Cuban cigars....there is no higher compliment.

Right now, my special box is the 2003 Punch Petite Corona in my office humidor.  Those things are really in their prime now.

My 2010 BHK 52, I recently opened it to celebrate the birth of my 1st child. Wow what a pleasant surprise they are. 5 left and they will be for special occasions only.

$1.80 each (25 Ct bundles) of Jose L Piedras Cazzies
SRU Feb 11. A friend and myself originally split 3 bundles about 6 months ago. Right after smoking a few we bought another 6 bundles. I would of bought even more but a "FB flipper" cleared him out of the rest.
They smoke flawlessly every time. They are milder and flavorful. I've not had one in both bundles so far misfire.... Whenever I want a cigar to just perform and not disappoint for the last 7 months or so these have been it. I feel like I stole them.
