Every time I look through my humidor and think about what I would like to add to my collection of tasty treats, I think of so many brands I want to add. But, when it comes time to hit up 24:24 or 24:72 I always end up buying the same product. Now there is nothing wrong with being loyal if you have a specific palate and you know what hits that mark but I feel like I am only tasting a small sample from a very large buffet.

What is your take on this and how many different brands do you stick in the old humidor?

I come in at 4 consistently; Bolivar, HDM, Cuaba, Monte and am always searching for Dip 2s.

I am loyal to Cuban cigars. Have all of the marcas. The marcas are not individually owned brands, so marca lotalty is not something that matters.

I agree. I was really wondering how many different marcas people are averaging. Since there is such a variety of flavours out there, seeing if people stay with three or four or way above that number?

I am relatively new so I have enjoyed branching out and trying as many different marcas as I can. It's easier to try and do a split or grab a single if I'm not sure about something but if I'm pretty sure/know I'll like them I go for a whole box.

Like Shlomo, I have something from every Marca as well. Makes deciding what to smoke interesting, but I like variety.

Probably have more cohiba than any other. Who am I kidding, definitely more cohiba than any other....

Yep, loyal to Habanos.....there are a few Marcas I gravitate to more than others and a couple I just don't bother with but otherwise any fine Cuban cigar is fair game!

In order of preference, Top 10, at present, would be:-

Saint Luis Rey

Sancho Panza

Juan Lopez

La Gloria Cubana

Por Larranaga

Trinidad

H Upmann

San Cristobal

Quai d'Orsay

Partagas

Not loyal. Love variety. Only Marca I haven't explored enough lately is H Upmann Two marcas I really like here lately aren't even on Jeroccos list--RA and RYJ. This should say how different peoples tastes can be. And in NC (sacrilege I know) right now I really like Tatuaje, Padron, and Don Pepin sticks.

I know what you mean - I only have boxes of Bolivar & Cohiba, with one Montecristo purchase that I would like to undo lol. I'm not sure that it's loyalty as such - as Shlomo says, because the brands are not individually owned/produced there is no real reason for loyalty. I think these two brands just happen to be my favourite.

Variety & preference is an interesting topic. Let's say you had to compare two cigars that you enjoy...which one is your favourite? So, why bother smoking the other one in the future? The only reason to buy others is for variety of course. If you ate your favourite meal every day, you would probably crave something else quite quickly. Still, I personally don't need a huge variety. For me, the main reason to have several different cigars is because their size varies. Most often the cigar I choose to smoke is based on how much time I will have to enjoy it (hence the need for different sizes). Having said that, I am soon planning to get some Dip 2s also. I found them to be one of the most unique tasting cigars I have tried so far.

I have about 8 brands currently, I have bought extra boxes of some I really liked, but I do like trying new brands especially based on recommendations. All have been great in their own way, but i don't think I will stop trying new ones.

Part of the pleasure for me is opening the humidor and being spoiled for choice, with even more out there to try.

Can't wait.

I've tried just about everything. Time and again, when I've gotten too experimental, I'll reel it in and get back to stockpiling Upmann, Por Larranaga and my beloved Ramon Allones. Only recently realized that Trinidad Reyes and Rafael Gonzalez PC are 2 smokes I probably shouldn't live without, either.

Very true, although for the purpose of the exercise, I will say that I now tend to gravitate towards the usual marcas. For example, no full boxes of Bolis, Cuabas, or HdMs.

Love variety in general, but seem gravitate to

1. Montecristo

2. Partagas

3. H. Upmann

4. Cohibas

Of course I will continue to smoke all Cuban cigars that come my way ???

A little of both. I do branch out and try new stuff but generally buy the same stuff in an effort to get deep enough in them for aging purposes.

On my favorites I try to keep several boxes aging plus the box I'm smoking.

I have no loyalty at the moment as I'm still searching for my preferred Habano marca. I currently have Bolivar, Cohiba, H Upman, HDM, Monte, Partagas and RA.

The closest thing I have to loyalty is my fascination with NC cigars with San Andres maduro wrappers...love those.

I'm all over the board as well. It can be tough to pull the trigger on a box of unknowns though (in the sense you don't know if you will like them or not, nothing to do with the outstanding service from our beloved host!). I've found splits in this case to be the way to go, that way you're not on the hook for the whole purchase price if you end up not liking it. Just remember, the only guaranteed way to make sure you get to participate in a split is to be the one hosting it :)

Yes. I really need to looking into doing some splits with FOH Canadian brothers/sisters. I seem to end up with the same marcas time and again. Completely fine with that but would love to do some trying of different types.

I would be willing to get in on a split to. Just because I'm still exploring all the varieties. Just don't want one brand in my humi. But that's how I'm looking at it today

I am more loyal to vitola. While I will smoke anything that is good, and would be happy to give Tabacuba the 'bird' if someone else made a great cigar, I am stuck with them until something better comes along. I am behind the curve on NC cigars... I tired of trying to find one that tastes good well over a decade ago. I no longer look.

I have linked taste more to vitola and condition. The condition I can control, so can I the vitola, by buying only those which I have a track record of good fortune.

I simply pick of marevas here and there and the occasional coronas that are still made. I have little reason to buy cigars other than 42 ring or less. There is not much left and I have reconciled with that, as it saves me money!

Cigar variation is my blessing. I could smoke the same cigar day in and day out. They are never the same and that is what I love about them!

By looking in the humidor I guess my prefered marcas are H.Upmann and Hoyo but I have many different marcas and I love trying new ones. What I have found out is that for me I rarely get a chance to smoke those big cigars (1,5h+ smoking time). Tended to collect them in the beginning but nowadays I look for robusto, petit coronas or smaller. Dip 2´s are really tempting but the size of them tells me I will rarely get a chance to smoke them. However, as I know myself, i will surely buy a box of dip 2´s in near future. Sadly (or maybe its a good thing), that box of 25 cigars will probably last just as many years :-).

I purchase all different types of cigars, some I've never tried before but had wanted to. but I do have my favorites and do purchase more than others. I guess I'm in the middle between being loyal and unfaithful to my lovely Cubans.

Similarly, I'm loyal to Habanos. I tend to favour the following four:

1) Cohiba

2) Montecristo

3) H.Upmann

4) Ramon Allones

Alas, I'm open to trying all the marcas (I have 18 of 27 marcas in my humidor at the moment), especially if something is smoking really well (e.g. Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion No.4 POU Jun 13, San Cristobal de La Habana El Principe EML Feb 15).

Anything H. Upmann makes me happy. That being said I also like diversity in my selections. I can't say I would buy cigars from every marca however there are so many good smokes available I try not limit myself. There is nothing wrong with having favorites, the trouble is when people stick with the same thing all the time you forget how to appreciate what is good.
