Looks like a trip is on.

It will be interesting. Largely symbolic, but seems to be an unstoppable train now.

I hope it doesn't make security at Jose Marti a pain.

I flew out of Johannesburg the week before a UN conference in 2002 and ended up in a little room filled with uniformed guys with Uzis.

The pace of change has been quite remarkable. It appears whatever can be done without congressional approval will be done.

Obama is a known cigarette smoker, not cigars. Although he tries to keep it on the down low.

He'll try to do whatever he can, even without the proper approvals. He is the king of executive orders.

For me, Abe Lincoln is the "King of executive orders," the Emancipation Proclamation is a tough one to top!

Every president from Harrison to Bush have used more executive orders than Obama has. Check the facts.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good narrative.

Discuss the Cuba news people rolleyes.gif

The lifting (progressive lifting) of the US Cuba embargo is the biggest Cuban news in half a century and will significantly affect our love of Cuban cigars....for better or for worse. Worthy of discussion. Play the ball and not the man.

You're probably right, but I hope that's not the case. I saw a video interview of James Suckling by UK Cigar Scene and he was saying he thinks it could be beneficial for the Cuban cigar industry. He mentioned that there is alot of land not in use that could be used for tobacco. He also explained that alot if the tobacco farmers will plant fruits and vegetables to sell at the city market for immediate cash, but when the embargo is lifted, there may be a higher benefit in planting more tobacco instead of the fruits and vegetables since it's more profitable in the long run.

Now I am new to Cubans and unfortunately have never been, so I am not 100% sure what the country and tobacco farmers are truly capable of. But I do enjoy James' articles, feel like he has a good knowledge of the situation and seems to be reputable source of information on CCs. So I am holding out hope that maybe the cigars won't suffer as much as people believe.

I dunno, maybe I'm just a dreamer...but I'm not the only one right?? :)

Let me tell you mate, when the PoTUS flies onto Isla PigFish, the traffic in town stops...!

On a lighter note, with all the advanced teams and the SS entourage, it may just look like the "Bay of Pigs II - the sequel." -LOL The poor Cubans are gonna' think they have been invaded!

I would really like to know how the SS pulls off protection in a situation like this. Not to imply that there is any greater risk than in other countries, but I wonder as well what the more hardcore side of the military thinks about 'armed Americans' once again on their island. All pretty interesting to say the least... Should be quite a spectacle!
