Last Wednesday, I went with Rob Fox to Humidores Habana to check up on a project that the Dublin shop is having done for their anniversary next year.

I had meant to go out to see this place before but never quite made it, previous trips were usually a bit on the early side..

Nino has done very good blogs about this company before but for those who don’t know, Humidores Habana makes many of the humidors for the festival gala auction as well as private commissions for distributers/retailers.

Anyway, Alex at the shop showed us around the entire place. The work is unbelieveable. Doing what they do with the space, materials and tools they have is incredible.

They have expanded enormously over the past few years from a tiny room to a large multi-building factory. I saw at least 25 staff out there. All privately employed and some huge talent. With official encouragement. All good.

Much of the wood has been sourced from buildings in Havana that collapse.

Yannick from Intertabac has a nice project with them coming along next year but I can’t say more about that. It’s his thing. It’s very nice, that’s all.

Most impressive was the replica of the Bacardi Building in Havana. The attention to detail is incredible.

I had heard about this piece last year but this was my first chance to see the finished product. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Apparently it’s going on tour first and there are rumours of a buyer. I didn’t bother asking how much as I know I don’t have it.

Rob says, “there are very few people in the world who have a room big enough for that”. The reply was “we only need one.”

Those humidors are works of art. Repurposing those old beams is clever as hell

I was there two years ago and it was a highlight of that years trip. As you say, amazing what they do with what they have. They were working on the Bacardi building back then.

did they say approx. how many cigars it holds?

I didn't ask. Being a replica of the Bacardi building, it is designed to hold quite a few bottles too.

I'd guess 200-500. But that's a guess.
