hamlets for me and la China. i didnt even know what customs were till i went on the FOH cuban trip last November and had i known how much i would come to enjoy the customs i would have done anything to get my hands on more.! im hoping to go back this November and try a few of the others since Hamlet has gone on to greater things i will have to see if i can find a "new" favorite roller. So thanks rob for hooking me on even more cigars! and good times plenty of those were had.

This one's better a question I think to those that have more regular and frequent access than us embargoed ones.....

While I've had opportunity to avail myself of some of these posted above along with a few farmies, not nearly enough to make any serious judgement calls.

To me and my limited experience I've quite enjoyed Rodoldfo Toboado's work probably the most. Likely romanticized due to them being some of the first customs I had along with his passing.

La China's Salamones from the early Partagas LCDH days were top notch and who can say more about Enriques's Monsdales....

Spending a little time with Senor Gonzalez at the Conde de Villanueva last fall and being treated to some of his production was very memorable and I must thank the one member of our party who's name I can't recall that let me smoke one of Reynaldo's Lanceros at the time as they'd sold out right in front of me. Did bring home a few others of his and had picked up others before and after.

Love the seco touch and perfect construction Jaime puts into his rolls. Out of all, his probably get the top vote.

Some of the best non-sanctioned I've had were from Don Alejandro's farm followed by those we picked up at Hector Prieto's that Miguelito rolled.

While I have been able to pick up the occasional customs by some of the other rollers like Santos from friends and acquaintances, I don't believe I've yet partaken of any of Yolando's rolls or had the pleasure of a Cueto, though heard great things.

Mons from the time before his passing were REALLY good. I can still taste the handful a good friend sent me to taste. Have had a bunch of ok to good customs. And hands down my least impressive are a bundle of Sublimes that I got from R**i. Not a bad flavor, but just not for me. To this day I wish I had that money back to buy a box of something regular production! LOL!

Santos lanceros with age on them have been my favorites, but I really like what his successor Alex is rolling now, and I am anxious to see how they develope with age.

I buy mostly farm customs that friends bring back as I love the consistency and quality of roll. I wish we could give out the name of the rollers to give them the notoriety they deserve, but sadly that could still cause harm to their wellbeing in Cuba

I've also enjoyed some old Toboada's that were fantastic, to bad that experience won't happen again.

La Escogida's ( Hotel Commodor) roller Alex has some fantastic customs. I really like them with just a few months on them. They are a sweeter, breadier type cigar, but delicious. They remind me of a lighter Upmann mixed with the cake-spices of Hoyos.

Reynaldo's I love when fresh. I tend to like their more fuller profile when young, as the aged ones I have seem to have lost their bold little edge from new.

I have a handful of hamlets. I have yet to smoke any though and am hunting for more.

Monsdales are my favorite which I have smoked. They remind me of a sweeter sir winston with more coffee. Just fabulous.

Reynaldo pyramides taste to me how a behike should taste, and are great as well. I have 50 lanceros arriving tomorrow and can't wait to try them.

Juanita does a great gorditos (crs size) it was way to herbal for my taste while young, but some great cohiba-esque flavors have developed since.

This thread got me curious, so I broke out a bundle of Laguito no.4's rolled by Alex @ the Commodoro in Feb14.

It's like Connie A had a love child with a Behike.

Fathers looks & mothers personality!

Sweet bread like Upmann and deep rich tobacco much like a BHK's core.

This bundle is ready to my standards, and will not last long now.

These sound incredible! Any spares? sneaky.gif

I'm relatively new to the customs scene. I have plenty of Hamlet's and both Jorges' and Enrique's Monsdales. A handful of LaChina's and Reynaldo's. Several fivers from lesser well known rollers that visited the Toronto LCDH over the past five years or so. I've smoked a few Santo's customs and am kicking myself for not buying bundles. Especially his 109's. I smoked one in Havana (2012) and was mesmerized. I had picked up so many cigars on that trip, I was hesitant to add more bundles to my haul. Next year, Santo's wasn't at the Commodoro. :(

I've got a couple of Wolters Custom DCs that are pretty good.

Of what I have experience with, Reynaldo's and Hamlets are my favorite's. HLP/VR farmies very nice. Johnny O. WF Canonazo's a surprise defin. cuban IMO. Biggest surprise as I was not expecting much were Alphonso's , custom roller @ 63 calle Veradero. The sticks I did not care for much were from the Lady at the Nacional.

For me it really is all about the prime material used.

Some years are better than others and I had the fortune to discuss the mix prior to rolling on most customs I've smoked.

I've enjoyed most of the custom rolls I have smoked, but Hamlets' cigars have a special place in my heart. My first was one of his shaggy foot double robustos he rolled in Toronto a few years back. They were like smoking espresso laced sweet cream. But my favorite are Hamlets' flying pigs that smoked like OR BHK. I have 5-6 left and they are some of my most prized cigars.

A word of advice for all of you trying to chase down custom rolls, but can't go to Cuba to buy them. Be very careful. Only buy from those who you know well and trust. You can't verify the provenance of custom rolled cigars unless you see the roller rolling them. I had an experience a few years back buying some "hamlet" rolls that once I smoked one I knew they were not his. I was lucky enough to have been able to get my money back and send the cigars back.

Any favorites Prez? If so, could you share thoughts on why?

Is there a general rule of thumb that could be made for each roller? I have read that Reynaldo usually has one of the strongest blends. Is that consistently true or does it just vary on what tobacco he obtained for the day? Do other rollers have a specific profile to their design?

Thanks.

My only two real experiences have been Hamlet's and Mons' customs. I've have a one or two of others', e.g. those that have come to the LCDH in Toronto...having said that I like both Hamlet and Mons customs. I have a few from La China but haven't smoked any as they were from the 2013 Partagas Festival and want to keep them as a complete set from my time in Havana attending it.

In general though I tend not to gravitate to custom rolls, even in Cuba...never really took to them I guess.
