I have been smoking cigars for 20 years...plus on a number of other forums for years as well. However I have to say FOH has been a good learning experience for me. Obviously learning the world of the Habano...the nuances of each brand, their history and sizes, reputations, etc. has been and is still great fun. But the other thing is the total culture difference here vs the NC side regarding aging of stock. Here we like a freshie that is enjoyable now but it is just generally assumed that many good cigars just need time (years) to be ready and are purchased with that plan in mind. In the NC world it's more like "Yup, bought some, tried it and didn't like it....next!". What have you picked up from your time on the FOH forums?

That with a fine community of BOTL & SOTL combined with fair moderation and a fantastic host, a cigar forum can actually be a real pleasure to visit.

Cheers

Beyond cigars there are also experts in many other facets of life that share their knowledge and experiences.

I should quote you all here because I couldn't agree more with everything you've all said so far and so much more.

I've learnt so much not just about cigars but about the communities as well. It's been a fantastic learning experience, it's been a great opportunity to speak to some really fantastic people and I can only hope that those experiences continue well into the future!

FOOTNOTE : This relates to here as most of my collection is from here...I've also learned that no matter how small one's collection starts, no matter how much you end up paying - your collection grows, and it grows and it grows (funnily enough in direct proportion to the reduction of credit left on one's credit card! haha!)

…errr… hum… not much about plume…jester.gifnyah.gif

sorry couldn't resist…

Doesn't matter. I have learned quite a bit on mold and humidification issues. Those shoes cannot be un-seen no.gif

- how to be a cigar snob lol (in a good way)

- that my pre-conceived notions are wrong, that enjoying and affording a good habano was only limited to those who are affluent

- cigars and opinions and experiences of them can warmly be shared by people, and bring together people from different walks of life just like different types food does

- how to pick, store, and appreciate cuban cigars and how to value them as more than just a stick of tobacco

- lastly, how to squabble like gentlemen lmao.gif

You better have a super internet connection and be sure the refresh button works for the LFTW event.

And if you snooze you loose (said the guy who missed the sir winnie....)

Who remembers that Trinidad Robusto-T Rob posted one box of a while back?

That was fun to see the anger stew after it was claimed with 10 seconds ^_^

Real collectors are humble.

Also, from a street sweeper to a banker add a Puro and nothing else matters.

Self proclaimed aficionado's tend to be Tocks.

In Australia using words such as "Stogie" and "Herf" still feels weird. So I don't ( Just Me)

I have learned that I have been buying the wrong cigars for a looonnggg time....

... That and I learned to have my credit card number memorized and refresh the screen often.

The main thing I've learnt is that often a poor smoking experience is due to improper storage. Put some thought into it and experiment as opposed to just following the advice you commonly read on the internet.

Regarding Cuban cigars, be open minded and put aside preconceived notion. Utilize the available information and apply what works for me, but rely on my own senses and judgement. Be patient. They are a crapshoot. There is no gospel.

Otherwise, friendship, laughter, loyalty, fraternity.........

Littler cheaper cigars are often better

There are still generous people out there who like to share

Have a firm resolve before browsing for sales - go for proven quality and sample before committing to a new release

When desperate you can lose weight

Sane grown men lose it during LFTW

Play tight early and loosen up late in the game. Above all do not allow Czar1 to draw to a straight.

Australians can be just as nice as Southern Americans.
