PigFish Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Handel's Messiah (the whole 'damn' thing…) one of my favorite pieces of music. Beethoven's 9th symphony, 4th movement. 1
ptrthgr8 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 There really aren't any songs that make me cry in general, but I recall crying like a baby when Glycerine by Bush came on the radio while I was driving through the Badlands in Montana shortly after my mother had died... but I don't think that had as much to do with the song at the time as it did the recent events. But the one song that's always made me think "Damn... how sad"... well... that's easy: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. Cheers, ~ Greg ~ 1
Cisco Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 There's a lot of sad music, and I can no doubt list many but the one that has brought tears to my eyes is the Arvo Part composition below. No idea why, perhaps it is such a sad song that it makes me think of all the people close to me that have passed away.
leftimatic Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 The Derailers, You don't have to go. Brings back sad times every time. Blue Rodeo, Lost Together. Saw Greg Keeler and the Sadies play it at the Power House in Edmonton. Wow. It was spiritual to say the least.
rmill3r Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Without a doubt, Clint Mansell's "Together We Will Live Forever" from the original soundtrack for Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain. It means a lot more when you realize it's a movie about a guy's wife dying of cancer and him spending (essentially) eternity trying to save her. Also, I just found this amateur rendition of it, and it's quite beautiful. And as far as a full band with lyrics, The National's "Mistaken For Strangers" hits an emotional note with me. Matt Berninger's lyrics are pointed and his baritone voice only adds to that effect. When he sings lines like "Oh, you wouldn't want an angel watching over / surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch / Another uninnocent, elegant fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults" it's just . . . just . . . damn. Excuse me while I go have a good cry. It's good for the soul, ya know . . ..
bobbutcher Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I suppose the song that hits home for me the most, and can bring a tear, would have to be Over you by Miranda Lambert
