I will say this, that is for me, coming to the answers myself is part of the journey and the satisfaction of the hobby. Imposing answers, rather than making observations, takes the fun out of the journey.

Part of this hobby is social, but there are other fun things, including the rigorous discussion and analysis in the hunt and chase for something you love. And solving a good mystery. Some might find the intellectual exercise relaxing.

I for one have smoked a ton of Sir Winston's and likewise Esplendidos (along with many other churchills), and I can say based on my personal evidence and experience only, that I have never had a Sir W

I don't think you know what sir winstons and esplendidos taste like.

Hopefully next month This thread is true in parts, supposition in others. I know full well that that the requirement to meet quota on a given cigar leads to shortcuts. I have posted long ago abou

Riddle me this.. Why are the stocks of Sir Winstons so low. No one ever has them in stock. I've heard their produced in very low numbers.

Just curious.

@OP

Yes these can be a bit more difficult to find and are generally one of the more expensive current release, non double-banded marca/vitolas sought after by those with the palate to appreciate and wherewithal to pursue.

Regarding the Connie A, I enjoyed the sample I smoked immensely and expect there may be a box or so in my future. I also recently smoked a '13 SW and they're worlds apart. The A was immediately approachable whereas the SW needs a lot of downtime in my opinion. I believe these will come around with a true Upmann profile in a few years, not so sure how the A will bear out for the long run.

Burned an '08 as a control and it was phenomenal. Would take those any day over most Esplendidos I've had, not that it's been many - more partial to the Robustos, Corona Especiales and Lanceros from that marca.

Over the years I have experienced significant disparities in the quality, consistency of taste, similarities and difference between and across marcas of the same vitola and general enjoyment of many if not most Habanos. I am sure much of the shenanigans described above have transpired over time.

As a result I find that much of the conjecture observed on this thread to this point is understandable though it has been somewhat seriously derailed on occasion.

That all said I must agree that differing viewpoints and opinions are welcome to me and I believe I've taken away a few nuggets of wisdom along with some serious head shaking.

Net net, if you can find Sir Winston's that taste like Sir Winston's snap up all you can.....if they taste like Esplendidos consider you got a bargain!

Smoked a Connie A that a member here sent me recently and it tasted more old school SW than any '07+ SW's I've smoked...with hell of a lot more body.

Of course experiences are your own, but I think what people should get out of this thread is that our hobby is a wonderful journey, whether it be leisure or lessons, and don't denounce another's opinion without thinking about the other side. Who knows, you might learn something new, or gain a perspective that you never considered.

A manager of a local b&m here complains that Cuban cigars are too "linear" and as such prefers the ingenuity of noncuban cigars. I have great respect for him but my opinion as confirmed by this thread belies his assertion.

Thank you all for the education and thought that has been put into this topic. It started with what I thought was a fairly simple question and it ended up going down a rabbit hole. It has been a fun and very informative read. At least twice...

In agreement regarding the old school SW's compared to the Connie A. I've got SW's from '96-2012. I haven't smoked any of mine newer than 2010, but the Connie A had that old school SW refinement and class.

I agree with this for sure though still question how the Connie A will compare to the '13 SW 5-7 years down the line. Guess I'll know around 2020 looking.gif
