Are there any differences between original release Simones and the re-release of the '08 Simones?

Box date and cab size.

Many swear by the 50 cabs, and dislike the 25ct boxes. I've smoked and liked both.

Super Ramon is an awesome cigar. Very strong. If you like strong cigars they're quite good now, but will be better with age. Funny, I don't like the regular RA line much. I find them too mild. But they make some great REs.

Pretty much every Ramon Allones RE is far superior to the regular production smokes. As much as I enjoy RASS, the odd Gigantes and even RAE, the regionals are far tastier cigars. The RACF, Super Ramon, Gordito, Gladiator, etc have such rich, flavourful notes compared to the regular stuff. The last, really great RA was the 898. Those are on par with the RE's or better in terms of taste and complexity.

Have you had RASS from the late 90's or early 2000's?

I have not had an 898 that I believe to be genuine, but hard, VERY hard to beat a RASS with 5-10 years on it.

Nope. Haven't had such luck with finding old RASS. I do have a few boxes that I'm aging myself. The few RA898's I've had have been stellar. It's a real crime they're gone.

Yup. I have and would take the RA 898 vs. a RASS if I was pushed to decide between the two.

Have you tried late 90s early 2000 RASS vs. 898 from the same time frame and if so, what are your impressions?

Why is that?

I had both and didn't discern a difference. I think it's a misconception that 1st release cigars are better than 2nd. People think 2nd release are leftover leaves rolled again.

I also had the PL Magnificos UK RE in 1st and 2nd release and they were identical as well. In fact, some of the 2nd release were slightly better.

Otherwise how? Care to explain?

I have both the 50 cabs from 07, and 25ct from 08. It was my understanding that the 25s were not simply leftovers from the 50 cabs that had been reboxed. I have smoked them side by side on a few occasions and have found them slightly different.

I just can't buy into the pricing of RE's lately... pun not intended. LOL

I hear a lot of people talk about how good the VR Anny's are but they are $23-$27 USD each on the low end... someone above said $50 Canadian!?! When is enough's enough when it comes to RE pricing? I would love to buy the ERDM Pacific/Asia RE's but pricing is stupid crazy. Just because something is regional shouldn't make them $25+ cigars.

Can you tell I hate HSA's trend of cutting regular production for super premium 10-count boxes... LOL

How much does a Padron 1926 or standard Anni Piramide go for these days? ( I really don't know). Don Carlos, Opus etal.

I assume they are being positioned in the market the same way $20- $30 USD cigars.

Our stocks will arrive in a fortnight. I will put together the pricing in the next few days. We really have been flat out.

Anni's are worth the extra pesos to lay down and smoke on occasion. Not ever intended as a daily smoker!

Stick to the RASS and SLR for the dailies and leave these for those that want a treat!

A few things would make me select the 898 vs the RASS, all things being equal, in terms of age and provenance.

ring gauge: concentrates the flavours more IMHO. Both were smooth and have a great flavour profile however, the flavours were more vibrant in the 898.

Vitola: dalia gives more time with the cigar to enjoy the flavours. I prefer a dalia than a robusto, regardless of marca.

Strength: both have a medium level of strength to them and beautifully smooth with age.

Both are great cigars in their own right. The vibrancy of flavours in the 898 gives it the edge IMHO.

Hope this helps

Any chance of the RA Gordito or Petit Unicos showing up at Czar Rob?

This is the misconception, it's all the same tobacco. What does not ever intended as a daily smoker mean it's a cigar not a prize. And treat? I had a d4 that was a treat, better than pretty much any regional I've ever smoked.

The same tobacco as what? I smoke many Robaina, as it is one of my favorite marca, and these differ immensely!

It pleases me that you don't smoke them.

I just bought another box of the B2, and according to you they are just a BBF rolled with bigger leaves?

They are variations of blends and sizes, and I know anyone who enjoys the regional program as much as I will agree.

Marketing is very important in this world (just look at our hosts brilliant sales tactics) and this program is a success inspite of the haters.

I am a regional *****, and I very much enjoy it.
