David67 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I smoke about 75% Cuban cigars and sometimes have a Non-Cuban to mix it up. There are a lot of non-Cubans that have tobaccos from more than one country. I often wonder, what Cuban tobacco would be like if blended with tobacco fom other countries to make a cigar? How many of us wonder about this? If such a cigars was to be made what would be the blend you would choose?
David67 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 This. OK, now you've got me wondering....
brazoseagle Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I don't have a taste for NC's at all,so I don't wonder about it, If it ever happened, I guess I would have to pick up a new hobby or something.
Wil Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I don't have a taste for NC's at all,so I don't wonder about it, If it ever happened, I guess I would have to pick up a new hobby or something. Yep, I would re-mortgage and stock up on Cubans.
David67 Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 I must say as interesting as I find the idea, I certainly would not like it to become the norm - love my Cuban puros too much. Anyway Cuban wrapper and binder with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler would be interesting.
Murri Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I like the richness of Dominican Fuentes like much of the Hemingway line. I think a Dominican filler, Cuban binder with Cuba wrapper could be very rich and flavorful. Would be interesting. Not saying I would like the idea though. About the same with me. I like the Short Story and Work of Art for a nice change.
cigcars Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 *Uhm - all those Dutch cigars and Villigers, J. Cortes, Willem II, Olifant, ad infinitum all consist of combination Sumatra, HAVANA, Brasilian and other country tobaccos in their makeup, and have so for awhile. They are really pretty good too
canadianbeaver Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Nobody like my picture? LOL... This what happens when you mix the two religions baby
SMQQKIN Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 It is an interesting thought. Some NC cigar company owners that I have spoken with think it is likely to happen once Cuba gets an influx of American money & it turns into another smaller island version of Las Vegas...
mk05 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Weren't people technically smoking blended with Habanos B?
mk05 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Search the forums for this topic, I believe there are great previous threads on this. The following from Pepin who uses Cuban seeds. http://www.cigarafic...-Pepin_6220/p/3 He takes another puff of his cigar, and thinks to the future. "Once Cuba opens, the Cubans are going to take leaf from Central America. They have more rollers than the leaf that they have," he says. He is asked if he would keep making cigars in Nicaragua if the embargo is dropped. He says he would. Then he is asked to blend the perfect cigar in his head. He smiles broadly at the question, and says without hesitation that it would be a combination of Cuban-seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Estelí and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua. The other filler components, seco and viso, would come from Cuba, the former from Villa Clara, the latter from Pinar del Río. "That cigar," he says with pride, "would score 100 points."
cigcars Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Havana tobacco or just the seeds? A lot of NC producers claim to be using Cuban seed... Nope, actual Cuban tobacco. Being produced overseas those companies can legally do it in the Netherlands and other places. Check out those tobacco blendings sometime on those sites.
Smallclub Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Nope, actual Cuban tobacco. Being produced overseas those companies can legally do it in the Netherlands and other places. kjellfrick Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I bought a box of 5 cigars in 1983 when my firstborn arrived. Swedish brand...Frans Suell...that stopped making cigars in the late 90's. They allegedly had tobacco from Vuelta Abajo in this cigar. I accidentally found the box again around 2006 in the back of a shelf. Smoked one and boy was it tasteless...
mkz Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Lots of cigars and cigarillos blended with cuban tobacco available online from Holland. I´ll throw a link to you Shlomo on PM (I cannot link to another seller on the forum)..
Smallclub Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I like cuban puros precisely because they are puros. And most of the NCs that I like are puros.
stogiecidal Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 The Camacho Pre-Embargo is supposed to be rolled with pre-embargo Cuban tobacco. Not sure of the validity of this claim and could quite possibly be just a gimmick. Smoked one that was gifted to me awhile ago and recall enjoying it for what it is but definitely do not recall it being close or better than the real deal.
Orion21 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I actually would expect this to be the reverse. If Cuban tobacco becomes available I would imagine non Cuban tobacco companies would be scrambling to roll their cigars with it not the other way around.
Smallclub Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Lots of cigars and cigarillos blended with cuban tobacco available online from Holland. Again, no. I think you're confusing the seed and the leaf. There is NO cuban leaves in Dutch cigars.
Ryan Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 There is a cigar maker in this country, in county Roscommon, who makes cigars with 80% Sumatran and 20% Cuban leaf. Oddly enough, because of this, Ireland is a net exporter of cigars. Also I have seen a cigar, in a shop near me, tubed and comes in a cardboard pack of two with a claim of '100% Cuban filler' on the back. I think it's a Villiger but I must check that to be sure. That's a recent enough release. I'll find out what I can about these.

It's the "Villiger Premium Tubo" <<made with 100% Cuban filler tobaccos wrapped in an original Sumatra leaf giving a well balanced flavour and aroma.>> I'd bet all my cigars that there's not 1 gram of tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo in this thing. Cuban low grade, maybe, like the picadura for the pipe smokers…
CaptainQuintero Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 There is a German cigar which has Cuban grown tobacco used in it, can't remember the name but I remember it being 100% genuine Cuban floor sweepings.

Murri Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 This from a company in Toronto, Canada Correnti Cigars is Canada's only manufacturer of Cuban hand-made cigars. We are Located in Toronto, Ontario. Four Generations of Cigar manufacturers have resulted in Correnti Cigars being the exclusive importer of Cuban Raw Leaf. Rob and Smithy did a review of some of these cigars a while ago. They were not impressed. http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106380&hl=correnti
