Lotusguy Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 This box just came in the mail - I usually don't post pictures of my additions anymore but I had to make an exception for this one. As you can see, the box is still sealed after ~80 years. It is even wrapped in Christmas paper. Inside are (I hope ) clear havanas from the 1930s. Not sure yet if they are handmade or machine made. I am DYING to open it, but I want to film this event and need a cameraman so as a teaser, here are some quick iPhone pictures of the outside I will follow-up with more info once this sucker is open. The box came with a freebie old Partagas Perfectos as well.
Strada Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Claus, thats an amazing find, I am really looking forward to seeing the opening and the cigar review....because I know you will do one right????
westg Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Yep . amazing find . Would love to know where you found those. Any chance of a pm.?.
Lotusguy Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 @Simon - I will absolutely do a review. Might even be my first ever video review, but no promises there... @westg - shouldn't be an issue mentioning the source on the forum since they only specialize in pre-embargo stuff but just to be on the safe side, PM sent.
CigarNole Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 These look really cool. Looking forward to the opening. Thanks for sharing.
DougB Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Wow Claus- congratulations on such an amazing find!!! Thanks for posting the pics too- very, very cool.
Habanos2000 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I eagerly await your review. I'm certainly interested in finding out how a cigar that old holds its own.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Wow! Great find Claus. I think I know the place. They post here once in a while I believe. I bought a 1950's Clear Havanas Sampler from them not too long ago.
Ghabanos Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 open them, open them, open them!!!! awesome....
CaptainQuintero Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Very cool! I haven't read too much about clear havanas, they are cigars rolled under license from Cuba in the US using both cuban and NC tobaccos right? I'd also love a pm of the source if possible please!
mk05 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 #ballsohardmofoswannafineme Nice man. Let's do a tandem review!? Lol
Lotusguy Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Wow! Great find Claus. I think I know the place. They post here once in a while I believe. I bought a 1950's Clear Havanas Sampler from them not too long ago. I've been tempted to pick up some stuff from them for a long time - did you smoke anything from that sampler yet? Update: I opened the box today. Will post pictures and upload some videos tonight. The cigars look great - no bug holes or mold The smell is most comparable with old books lol. If I read the tax stamp correctly, they are from 1933. I won't smoke any for a couple of weeks in order to let them adjust to the humidity in my cabinet humidor. It will be difficult to wait. Stay tuned
maverickdrinker Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 very cool Claus. Looking forward to the review
Lotusguy Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 OK, here are the pictures... the Youtube upload is agonizingly slow so those links will have to follow in the morning.
Lotusguy Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 This link to the videos should work - excuse the rather amateurish quality as this is my first video and I had my 10 year-old as the cameraman http://www.youtube.c...rt=da&flow=grid
LGC Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 "Smells like old tobacco." "We'll that's what it is, old tobacco." Funny stuff!
ptrthgr8 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 The NRA membership sticker is interesting. I wonder if that's the same NRA common in the US today, or if it refers to something that was actually associated with the tobacco biz back then. Cheers, ~ Greg ~ Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2.
Ophidion Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 It's a National Recovery Act sticker, not the NRA you are probably thinking of. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Industrial_Recovery_Act
canadianbeaver Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Love the Merry Christmas graphic... that would be a collectible in a whole different category!
Puros Y Vino Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I've been tempted to pick up some stuff from them for a long time - did you smoke anything from that sampler yet? Stay tuned I haven't smoked any of mine yet. They smell good and pass the pinch test so they so some promise. That is a great find there Claus. That NRA sticker is a hoot. I wonder if there's added value in that being placed there?
CaptainQuintero Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 the second video I got the same feeling I get opening a new box of cigars just watching you open them! Can't wait for a review of them!
