I've been thinking of picking up some Bolivar Gold Medals. Many of the reviews I see about these says they are very strong. Has anybody out there tried this re-release? If so what are your views on them?

a good cigar...not sure they will ever live up to the 42rg bolivar legacy...time will tell i suppose.

have many boxes...purchased over a 6 year span...have a single cigar left from 3 boxes i had from '06.

bolivar...the marca i find most difficult to age.

Yep, pretty strong, full dark burnt flavours for me.

Not a subtle, changing cigar, but a good one.dunno about any change when aged.

I love GMs. A staple in my humidor. In terms of flavour, these are robust spicy smokes. Look for first run productions (2007) these are awesome ok.gif

Have had 2 BGM's from a - MUA SEP 09 - ten box and loved both, earthy and rich but I wouldn't say anything like a rugged and heavy as R&J Cazadores etc, just a great smoke and an awesome size, almost the perfect size i recon

I have a box of 08s, which are great, and a box of 09s that I'm yet to crack.

Agree with Mazolaman's description - lots of dark, charred wood flavours for me.

IMHO, one of the milder Bolivars. I've smoked them from 06, 7 & 8 and not overly impressed. I'd rather smoke a BPC. Of course, I remember the ones from the 80s. THOSE were strong.

I don't find it all that strong. One of my favorites and like Pilgrims said, maybe the perfect sized cigar...

Can't really go wrong, its about $100-120 a box for 10 sticks and if you don't like them, just trade them. Won't be that difficult.

Agreed.

My 09s have been very good to excellent. One plugged, the others have been crisp, woody, and dark with a definite sweet aftertaste.

Haven't tried my 08s yet.

I find them more savoury than strong. I've had a few in the last couple of weeks and they are smoking great. The BGM is probably my most invested in box. I probably have about 7 boxes from 2008/9. The price is right, love the vitola and they're interesting smokes, never boring.

I have liked the 09 more than the 07 and 08 having had boxes from every year. Sta sep 09 are my favorites.

Smoking one with that box code right now. Glorious smoke. Bought 3 boxes with this code. First box they all had tight draw but still enjoyable and this box(second of the three) the 3 I have smoke have been great.

Get some while you can.......the lonsdale is going the way of the dinosaur.

After the 2010 production they're gone...........

Oooo...thanks for the reminder. Have just moved the BGMs up on the to-buy list.

I must be one of the few that doesn't care for them... I'll pick a regular Boli Lonsdale over them any day and twice on Sundays.

Do you mean the Immensos? Or was the lonsdale discontinued? I can't find it on the Habanos website.

They are good. Of the 6 I have smoked 4 were very very tight. Flavor wise I thought they were good, but the BPC and BRC are what Bolivar should taste like. The Gold Medal has a unique blend that doesn't scream Bolivar to me. I haven't bought any boxes.

Strong? I've never found them to be strong in the nicotene-sense of the word. I dislike lots of nicotene in a cigar and I LOVE Bolivar. Buy GMs as you fnid them. The vitola is a delight, I've never had a bad draw or construction issue with one, and the taste is everything a Boli should be IMO. Just WONDERFUL!

Of course you would, you elitist!

FWIW, yes the 07 GMs are smoking well, but the real GM change may not be discernible for another 5 yrs. What I mean is that the foils were really meant for changes over time. Old Fonseca Cosacos, good example. Not sure if that's the case nowadays.

I am a lonsdale ho, so I enjoy both regardless.

There is a simple formula for Boli GM's.

Buy them

Rest them (5 years)

smoke them

Enjoy them
