Now that I think about it, most of the cigars I've had so far were pretty much a robusto size or bigger/thicker. But I was always interested in the thinner/longer cigars for some reason, but they were hard to find in the US. The only "lonsdale" I had was some cheap one from padron and I enjoyed the feel of it in my hand, although I wasn't fond of the taste of the padron. I also want to try the cohiba lancero and the trini fundadores eventually, but as my next purchase I want to pick up a lonsdale/dalia.

What are some of the good choices? So far, I've found Bolivar Gold medals, Montecristo No. 1, and Partagas 898V's, but can't choose which to get. Also, I'm sure there are a lot that I'm not aware of so please share some of your favorites.

*Partagas Seleccion Privada No.1

*Saint Luis Rey Serie A, since their Lonsdale I believe is being discontinued

*Vegas Robaina Classico

*And while it's among the affordable budget type price: The Jose`L. Piedra Cazadores isn't a bad Habana smoke at all!

Hope this is some help. They are among the ones I've never found to disappoint me!

My very favorite cigar is the Partagas 898. Considering what has happened to so many other great smaller ring cigars, it's a miracle that it's still being rolled. One of the greatest full-bodied, complex cigars of all time.

IMO, no regular production lonsdales or dalias are full bodied.

Easy to find:

Hoyo de Dieux

Part 898varn

Hard to find:

RA898 varn

Partagas

SLR

Boli Inmensas

I was leaning towards the Partaga 898's but all the reviews said it was a powerful smoke so had me a little worried. Glad to hear it's not full bodied.

Anyone like the BGM's?

my 3 favorite lonsdales:

Bolivar lonsdales

ERdM lonsdales

H Upmann lonsdales

I could go on. Lonsdales are probably my favorite size.

My favorite somewhat available Lonsdale is the Boli Lonsdale. HDM Des Dieux and LGC MdO #2 are tied for #2.

Best one ever: RA 898 (impossible to find). Also very good (and HTF): RG Lonsdale.

HdM DD is a corona grande. Other corona grandes such as the Cohiba Siglo III and QDO GC are superb.

I prefer the Laguito #2 vitola to the lonsdale. The Cohiba Coronas Especiales and the Monte Esp #2 are two of the best cigars in the current HSA inventory.

The 898 dalia format is very nice. You can't go wrong with either the Partagas or LGC representatives.

Lonsdales suffered from horrible construction during the boom years and most were discontinued. I particularly enjoy the Raphael Gonzalez representative. One of the most complex smokes you will find when rolled properly. There are several other discontinued lonsdales that you can track down. I have boxes of the ERDM, Partagas, and SLR lonsdales. All have their merits. I would start my journey with the current production cigars however.

The Boli GM is an absolutely Awesome smoke, worth trying whether you pick up a box or a single, presentation is brilliant too!

PL Encantos deserves a note here too, lovely now, will likely do better with more time as is the PL PC way... Probably a good choice if you think the others might be too strong for you.

Romeo Cazadores is great for real in your face flavours and strength, ages well too. (it's a bit shorter but still 43rg, close enough?)

Party 898v let me down a little bit when I tried one, had just cleared a cold though so might have been me.

Bang on. :ok:

BGM - Solid smoke. / RyJ Cazadores - little known but fantastic. It's powerful blend makes is a great stick to age. Party 898 - zesty smoke, PL Encantos - Not a common stick but worth getting.

Also.

Partagas 898 (non varnished)

Not a dalia, but a corona grande (like the Siglo III or the Hoyo des Dieux)

Out of curiosity I wonder how many RA 898 were actually smoked by people who recommend it so warmly. it was a rare cigar, not even distributed in several European countries… :daydream:

In my case, two - what are you implying?

My cab of Partagas Lonsdales from Andorra is the best Lonsdale I've ever tasted. Good luck finding them outside of Andorra though! Also love the Boli, RG, and Dip 1 for lonnys

Dalias - RA898 takes the cake, I pray my dried out box from while I was away comes out unscathed. Good luck finding them too.… notice a trend? :( Can't go wrong with Partagas 898 or Siglo V either.

You can still get RA 898 in auctions and private sales (not for long though). £400 is the going price.. I have a box and waiting on my 2nd to arrive anytime now ;)
