I am likely to place an order soon and I was hoping to pickup a higher quality Petite Corona. I was hoping some members could point me in the right direction.

What would you go with? For comparison sake - lets say both boxes are from 2011, and will be aged for a minimum of 3 or 4 years.

Cohiba Siglo II. Or

Trinidad Coloniales

Thanks in advance,

Dan

This is a tough choice for me as Cohiba and Trinidad are my 2 favorite marcas. It's like asking which of your kids do you love more?

If I had to choose one to take to a desert island, it would be the cohiba siglo II. They are just such a fantastic smoke with some age (3 to 5 years minimum) on them.

Having said that, the 2010 and 2011s are smoking really well right now. The construction is first rate and the tobacco top notch.

I'd have a hard time chosing but the edge would go to the Siglo II

Neither, BPC or if you can age a cab of PLPC :D

In fact I do like the Coloniales a great deal but needs 3 years at least as very strong when young. I haven't much experience With the Siglo II but those I've had were totally unapproachable when young so needs maturing too.

While the Coloniales is an OK cigar, Siglo II is my all-time favorite PC. I always have more than a box on hand. (When I a down to my last box, I order another before cracking it open...)

If you check out all the cigar review contest reviews from the other week, you'll find that there was a large number of SII reviews. (I would have posted mine if time didn't run out...)

Do a box split?

If you're looking for any "special, high quality" pc, I would opine that nothing beats the H Upmann Noella in the jar. It's also one of the 3 best cigars Ivr had this year.

I was lucky enough to score a PSP box of Upmann p/c.. Highly reccomended..

If not i'd go Cohibia...

Thanks for the input everyone. I have to say I'm leaning towards the Siglo 2 now. I currently have a box of BPC and a cab of PLPC. I'm finding that the petite corona is a good size for me. Between family and work, it seems a 50 -60 minute smoke is ideal given my time constraints.

I love both marcas, so the choice is a tough one. I currently have Sig IV's stocked up, as well as Trini Reyes and Robusto T's. And I enjoy all of them.

I should probably just pull the trigger on both the Sig II and the Coloniales....lol. I've been on a bit of a cigar shopping spree as of late, so I really should limit myself. So damn hard though... Decisions, decisions!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm smoking a box of '06 Colonials. They are pretty damn good but they took quite a while to come around. I smoked one the other night watching the Celtics and then smoked a '04 PLPC. The PLPC was the better smoke by a mile.

Personally, I'd go with the Trinidad. Siglo II's aren't going anywhere, but Coloniales, who knows. Even if HSA is keeping the Trinidad marca, I can definitely see the Coloniales being on the list the next time they do a big batch of deletions.

I have never been a fan of either cigar. For marevas, or petit coronas the S-2 has always been too expensive and their taste performance has not rationalized the additional cost when compared to other cigars. There have historically been a lot of great PC's and I have never really considered the S-2 to be one of them. Their taste performance in my eyes is not much better than the Monte 4... Also over-produced!

I have never liked the Coloniales since the day it was introduced. I still have some original release Coloniales. Maybe when H SA decides to discontinue them, I will sell them!!! -LOL Technically, the Coloniales is not a PC but what is a couple of 64ths between friends?

Looking at 42 ring cigars I still like the RG. If I am going to the coronas size, I am looking at the QdO. Both the Bolivar and the PLPC are staples in my locker as are many other PC's some of which are not current production.

In fairness I cannot comment on current vintage. The newest cigars I have, unless gifted cigars, are from '08.

Looking over Robs retail site, I would choose a box of QdO coronas and I would save $50 on the Siglo 2's. I would likely kick in a few bucks and get a box of SCdlH ELP's. It would cost me a little more but I would get 50 sticks, and IMHO, likely better cigars.

At the $230-$250 price point (25 cigars) I would choose the Monte Esp. #2.

Good luck on your selection. -the Pig

The siglo II is a great smoke.

Not a fashionable choice, but I really enjoyed the R&J PC that was offered up in the blind tasting.

Art - I'll write you an email regarding the Noellas.

As for the Sig II and Coloniales comparison, I see it like this. Which one do you like to smoke? YOU'RE the one smoking them right? :smartass:

Between the two, I personally like the Coloniales because it's something different from the entire marca - like an odd duck out - Siglo II, while great, is just another cigar in the Siglo line.

If I were recommending cigars, I would mention the ones in my sig. lol

Without hesitation.

Wow! A lot of great input. I'm noticing a lot of members would recommend the monte especiales #2 given the price range. I'm more confused than ever.... Does anyone know how the recent runs of them have been?

No personal experience, but think I recall Rob saying they were excellent around mid- to late last year.
