canadianbeaver
Some of us are either traveling and have limited access to web usage or when in certain locations, or just don't want to wait for these huge images to load. A simple upload to a site before posting and resizing will do the trick. Of this is out of line, ignore. L

chr0nic
A simple upload to a site before posting and resizing will do the trick. Not sure about anyone else, but when I try to upload to imgur or equivelient and then post the link I am told "not allowed on this forum"... which results in me saying 'bugger it' and embedding them in the post the way Smithy \ everyone else does. I get that they are too large for phones, but the fact that the forum is smart enough to resize the image after it's finished loading so that it is not 'off-the-screen' huge is automatically is pretty awesome. Your work is done for you on a PC. Plus, the other downside to scaling down the image, is that you lose quality. And when we're talking about cigar porn where every fold, every oily wrapper, every colour tone is important, the bigger the photo, the more detail therein. chr0nic
No, you actually lose very little if you do it properly with a graphics editing software… Sure, but not everyone knows how to do that or has the software. I would have assumed the majority of people would rather put up with 300+ dpi HUGE photos that are easy to upload than learn how to properly scale\crop\resample photos. I mean, it's a cigar forum not a graphic design tuition. But that's just me, I'll be happy no matter the outcome.

Sure, but there is an easy handling on most digital cameras: just set a resolution of 72 dpi, maximum 800 pixels in width when you make photos for forums, groups, etc…

tdlfoto
Resize to 800 pixels wide and you're good to go. Google Picasa is a handy and free program to do sole resizing.
ptrthgr8
I use Fotki.com for all of my photo hosting needs so I can use off-site images...but even then I've never had an issue with the size of others' images in thread on my phone or PC. I guess I don't really understand what the issue is given that the forum automatically resizes everything. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
canadianbeaver
Sorry if I asked too much or hit a nerve ( or had nerve in asking). I am not talking about phones only. The giant photos do not resize that much in this forum and smaller photos should sharpen, not blur. I post in small photos so I guess I thought others could too. Never mind. canadianbeaver
Here's an easy way to do it if you want. It is how Strada is loading my travel photos. E-mail them to yourself as "small" and then upload those.
cigcars
Hey! I know what she's talking about. Since I have zero knowledge about computerese, sizing pixels and that kind of stuff, all I know is that since these newest "improvements" have been made on the forum site...MY pics viewing of you all's goodies don't come through anymore except in hugemongus size that only shows the left side but I don't get the whole pic. It was at that time that I saw recommendations for "google chrome" and I added that to my internet engines. 'Twas very nice but it didn't help the pic sizes. Well, Canadian Beaver (Lisa) my Mozilla Firefox's many, many, many self-initiated updates later - I can actually see nearly the whole pictures posted by our fellow forum members on FOH when I bring it up on Firefox. Maybe you can see if that helps for you if you don't already use Mozilla Firefox.
gigabyte056
I'm with you Canadian, The pics should not exceed a certain size, when they do I have to scroll around them on my phone until they re-size automatically when they finish loading, when I am on a lousy wifi in an hotel, I have to wait 10+ seconds for an image to load and I move on. I don't appreciate the sarcasm your post generated, but I guess most people who answered like that usually access from home and are too busy otherwise to use Picasa or any one of the thousands of free picture editing tools available such as the built in windows one... El Presidente
I will ask Jason to limit image sizes to 800 kb but really....there is no need for anything over 500kb If everyone can work to a 500kb rule it would make it easier for all. Thanks for bringing it up Lisa

Thanks for bringing it up Lisa No way! My camera's lowest setting is 40 megapixels. . What might be better is working the logic into the site that automatically resizes pictures. It can also resize the older pics as well. We did this for a bank way back when they were storing images of cheques. I know what Lisa means though. When I wrote my last review it was from my PlayBook. The one photo I uploaded into the thread slowed my browser down. Whereas when I post from my pc I make the pics smaller and easier to load.
