isa Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I might have occasion to visit Switzerland sometime in the summer. So, if available, i would like to pick up a box or two of their regional releases. I wanted your recommendation in this regard, if releases from past years are available, which RE would you recommend? I seem to prefer medium to full body & bold flavours.
cigcars Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I had the Swiss RE Por Larranaga Valioso, Juan Lopez Short Torpedo, and a few other massive bulk size RE's that were for the UK market, and unfortunately found them sadly lacking in flavor and content. Maybe if Switzerland imports a few Regionals into its territory you can seek out some for the Asia and Canadian markets. Who knows, maybe a few Bolivar and Ramon Allones RE's, if they're in Switzerland, may hit the mark. JM2C
Hash Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 The current swiss regional is the Punch Clasicos they come in a box of ten, considered to be a double robusto.

Bahnofstrasse Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I have smoked them all over the past few years as I am in Zurich quite a bit with my business. The best Suiza RE over the past few years IMO has been the Juan Lopez Maximos. It also smokes to your desired profile of med to med/full. All the others are just OK and nothing really special as far as I am concerned. There are better regular production cigars that I go to at a lower price... The JL Maximos are still available as I always pick up a single or two out of the LCDH Zurich. I also see them sporadically in the various Davidoff shops strewn through out the City Center. Good luck!
Hash Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Any idea how the are smoking hash? Personnaly I have not smoked them yet,but this format has been chosen to be the swiss regional for 2011,only 4000 numbered boxes will be available.
Zigatoh Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Only had the PL Valioso but thought it was awesome myself, had it a few months back, inspired me to buy a cab of pl pc just in case they were in any way similar flavour profile...
Smallclub Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 The best is the Ramon Allones Eminencia. … The rest is average. The Bolivar Legendarios from 2008 was certainly not "average" IMO, and the Eminencia failed to impress me…
Lotusguy Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 any opinions on the LGC RE? That's the only LGC missing in my collection but I am balking at the price still.
Savoy Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 the LGC are smoking very well....both punches are good......as well is the new RA's....actually a good group to chose from
isa Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 Thanks guys for all your responses I guess the RA Eminencia will probably be difficult to get - the valiosos, legendarios, maximos , etc. seem good options.
Hacigar Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 what about "Ramón Allones Especiales SWISS Regional Production 2011" there are no any user reviews ?
Smallclub Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Recent Swiss REs don't sell, to the point that Intertabak just released an humidor filled with 25 of each the two 2010 Editions : ERDM Elegantes and LGC Triunfos. I may be wrong but it looks like a makeshift job to get rid of unmarketable cigars IMHO.

I can't remember off hand but doesn't the Swiss market get a very large amount of cigars made for their REs considering the size of their domestic market? There is the general taint that Switserland suffers from because of the grey market too?

No. The grey market stuff stocked at the "Port franc" in Geneva wasn't sold in Switzerland, but to foreign markets, mainly USA.

Are they charging a premium over the previous packaging option?
mk05 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I think they're too expensive and mostly all fluff. But REs are all about the fun, so buy them all and find what you like.
amosnaim Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 there is a great review by Smithy from yesterday regarding the ERDM Elegantes
in0gravity Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Same deal as the recent JL and Boli Jars in Germany then... Are they charging a premium over the previous packaging option? Not quite correct. The Juan Lopez Jar was planned. The Bolivar Jar on the other hand would agree that this was just do sell the stock still in the warehouse. regards Lars

I for one didn't care for either one of those REs at all. Will give them another try when I am back in Germany next week, though.
canadianbeaver Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 We have Swiss RE's at the LCDH here in Toronto and another retailer north of the city in Orillia, Ontario. I wonder why they are so readily available here? I would not touch a box at 200-300% tax mark-up but maybe 1 or 2 as a special treat... Maybe.
Ophidion Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I just recently smoked a lgc triunfo and I liked it quite a bit. While not being a huge ring gauge guy, I found it to be akin to smoking a few mdo 2s at once with a softer flavor. Very enjoyable.
bassman Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 The Eminencia has been my fav Swiss RE. I'd agree with that. Nothing special for the ifrst few years, the 05s have really turned into a fantastic spicy smoke.
