laficion Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I'm sure, like every cigar smoker, you tell yourself that today I'm going to have that special cigar, well for me, today was that day. One stick !!!! Yep, that's all that I had left and what a cigar. I'm talking about my very last H.Upmann, Super Coronas with the box code, ECA FEB 01. I bought this box in Belgium while visiting my wife's family for Xmas in 2002 and BTW, great little shop in Bruges , most beautiful little city north of Brussels. Well, today was the day. The cigar aged very well in my humidor, the wrapper was just a bit oily and the smell was intense. After reading Rob's poll on CG's and seeing the mention of the Upmann Super Coronas, I knew that now was the time. I cut the cap and took a few pre-light puffs and the draw was perfect. Woww, the first aromas were truly divine with a rich smell of wood and spices covered in a wiff of thick leather, OK, It looks like things are going to get serious and that I'll need to concentrate on this gem of a smoke. 1st Third- The Super Coronas opened up immedately with a great and delicate taste of leather and wood with undertones of honey mixed in. 2nd Third- the cigar is now cruising and all of the flavors are there, dominate Leather, grilled almonds, delicate spices all with a creamy and honey after taste that is long and persistent , the ash hangs on tight and goes on a curbing which was quite odd & funny. Final Third- the cigar has become a taste and flavor bomb, it has more spice coming up front but with added coffee, nuttyness but also with a creamyness that doesn't go away. I really nubed this Super Coronas as far as I could and that's still not far n-nuff LOL LOL Truly a great cigar and a great moment, I let the cigar end it's course peacefully in an early and gentle, almost autumn breeze. Thanks for reading everyone Guy
CaptainQuintero Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Looked fantastic Guy! Did you keep them in the dress box all this time or put them into something more sealed like a SLB or jar? I've been thinking about getting some Short Churchills but dress box is the only option; people seem to be saying that you gain alot by aging cigars in an SLB or Jar compared to a dress box
tmac77 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 What a delightful review Guy of a cigar that many will never have the opportunity to try. A truly fitting write up and amazing pictures to send off your final one. Love the Quai D'Orsay cutter also. Where did you pick that up from? Tom

laficion Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Hey Guy, I have two left in my last box, ECA MAY 01… I might smoke one tonight… Frank, I know you'll have a great evening, you won't regret it, I wish I had another 4 boxes Damn you Habanos S.A.
anacostiakat Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Beautiful Guy. I probably only smoked one or two of those in total. So hats off on the score! There is an end to everything sadly.
mbrody Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Great review Guy, thanks. Unfortunately will never have the chance to sample myself...really hoping someday a long skinny Upmann or another Upmann super corona comes out! One can dream can't he?
Guest rob Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 This thread just gave me a huge case of 'cigar envy'! Thankyou Guy!
Erm310mce Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Great review and photos Guy! Thanks for posting. If there is only one cigar shop in Bruges (I think there is one), I agree with you. Great little store and excellent owner, really made me feel welcome and found some great sticks for me when I was there a couple of years ago. Put together the cigars, the best beer in the world and mules e frites! Heaven! Cheers!
riazp Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Bravo, great write up on a cigar a lot of us will never be able to enjoy...sigh...
nonameno Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Hello Guy, A really wonderful review with beautiful photos. Thank you for taking the time to share with us your last journey with an old friend of yours. It feels almost like reading an obituary. Thank you, Curtiss
PigFish Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Thanks again for sharing your vast experience my friend. It is hard to see a good friend walk out the door for the last time. I appreciate that you shared that moment with us. -Ray
Habanos2000 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Guy, great review, great pix and great cigar! I also appreciate, that by recalling where you purchased that box, it was able to bring back those memories as well.
mikec Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I know where there is a full box of 02 Super Coronas just down the street from me at a B&M. The guy just wants too much money for the box. I want to but I just won't pay his price.
maalouly Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 After reading your post Guy, going to head for a smoke. I don't have any SC so I will enjoy one of you favorite pyramids H.Upmann #2.

Thanks Elie and yes, I love a great H.Upmann No.2 CaptainQuintero (IP: 86.161.17.255 ) Looked fantastic Guy! Did you keep them in the dress box all this time or put them into something more sealed like a SLB or jar?. Hey CQ, Well no , I had this Super Coronas in my Humidor , when I only have 10 or less cigars left in a box, I take them out and add them to the other singles in another humidor
