Ribs and shoulder are resting with their rub now. Smoker's all cleaned out, gussied up and ready. Hickory chunks are soaking. Making southern hot slaw to go with the 'Q. Sourdough rolls for the pulled pork. The Boss is doing up wings and homemade sauce with homemade bleu cheese dressing.

Tequila reposado tonight (hey! why not now?! good idea!) , nothing tomorrow as I have to drive back to a broadcast job site.

The smoke? Another of the Bolivar CEs with which I've become so profoundly smitten.

I for one will not be getting cornholed this 4th of July. Well, probably not.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed the "cornhole" reference. It's a heck of a fun game that seems to have swept the Atlantic seaboard with a (probably deliberate) off-putting name. Think horseshoes with beanbags. Think safe-for-people-who-are-drinking-too-much. :perfect10:

Well it's my Birthday on the 5th so I'll have my own little party in the UK  Planning on firing up the BBQ and getting some fresh fish in to stick on the grill

-cornhole means something completely different at least from where I am from lol, I don't plan on celebrating with a bit of that :perfect10:

I thought cornhole was some sort of kinky game :perfect10: but actually is = Cornhole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing cornhole bags (cotton duck bags filled with feed corn) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end.

You learn something new every day

cornhole?

The game is huge in some parts of the USA.

Cornhole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing cornhole bags (cotton duck bags filled with feed corn) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. These platforms are usually made with plywood or plastic and are often decorated. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a player reaches the score of 21 if a team exceeds 21 they return to 12 points and the game continues.

We play late nights up at the local beer joint, and it's an absolute blast, especially when folks have gotten pretty good at it.

I've never played with the over-21 rule. I'll introduce debate on the topic next chance I get. One must bear in mind that "debate" when beer and/or tequila are involved can be quite entertaining in its own right. :(

I almost forgot, but thought I would share what I saw today:

My brother and I saw a bald eagle flying over our boat today while we were fishing on the Cumberland River and it was an absolutely magnificent sight to see on this holiday weekend. I tried to get the phone and take a picture but he was too far by the time I got to it.

Be safe and enjoy the fireworks - Happy 4th of July!!!

:( The wife and I will take our daughter to a fireworks display somewhere here in the northern Virginia area. Then, FINALLY on tuesday we move into a house here in Virginia and finally move out of the hotel we have been living in since June 5th! It will feel soooo good to finally sleep in my own bed again and have all my belongings back in a house and out of storage. The relocation will be complete and I will definitely smoke a special cigar for this occasion. Happy July 4th ALL !!!!!!!!

I'm going to be watching the fireworks from a friend's patio if the weather holds up. There will be plenty of food, beer and hopefully, cigars.

Boston puts on a good event for 4th of July, and has one of the better fireworks display in the country. Too bad Lionel Ritchie had a last-minute medical issue and pulled out of the Pops concert, I was really looking forward to that!

Happy Independence Day mates!

Thanks for the email Dennis! Back at you mate, fly safe.

Freedom, what is that? You can't smoke in public in my town and if you get caught with fireworks it is a $1000 dollar fine! The feds tell you how much water you can use to flush a load down the bowl and how many watts your lightbulbs can consume. I ask again, what is freedom?

My typical comment on this day is tongue-in-cheek and has always been, "Down with the British." However I am thinking on changing it to, "I want King George back."
