I picked up a halfbox, from a 24:24 sale last week, of PSP/HQ MEG Abr 16 Partagas Serie D No.4 from our host. My preference when it comes to this vitola is to age it and enjoy it much milder than when it's fuller-bodied and more 'peppery' in its youth. However, this is now the No.1 leading Habanos vitola seller (yes, it sells more nowadays than the Montecristo No.4 and No.2, individually) so I'm happy to develop my palate! They look gorgeous! I had one ROTT and I must admit, construction and smoke output was flawless!8 points

I've always felt like the Double Corona is the perfect large cigar. The ring guage is big enough that you have less issues with construction, while still small enough to be comfortable, and everything about it just feels in proportion. If building my own, I'd include a pigtail cap and a shaggy foot, but neither of these options are actually going to affect it - I just have a soft spot for them.4 points

Maybe a double Corona at 7.75" x 50 instead of 47? But the double Corona is pretty much a stellar large cigar4 points

This year appears to be played in fast forward. Damn...March already. School Sport tomorrow and an old fashioned beach BBQ on Sunday. The type of BBQ where you dig a pit in the sand, collect driftwood, throw over a BBQ plate and throw on some sausages and pork ribs. Glass of wine (for Di), some sugarless crap for me. A bit of fishing instruction in the afternoon. Perfect. 7 days to go before the big lads lunch....not that I am counting let us know what you have planned. Have a cracker weekend all!3 points

I'd like a Cohiba Double Corona (49 ring gauge x 194 mm) or better still a regular production Cohiba A Gran Corona (47 ring gauge x 235 mm) because sometimes, for me, an Esplendidos or Lanceros isn't long enough!3 points

Put a chocolate bar next to your Montecristo, some stone fruit next to your SLR, a little bit of fresh minerally soil near your Bolivars, a couple cherries by your RyJ. Oh yeah, a dallop of peanut butter next to your Cuabas. Freshly mowed grass by your Cohibas... and so on as needed. This will both serve as a way to help visually organize your singles as well as flavor enhance while they wait for their chance to be smoked.3 points

Age, more likely, judging from personal history. The older you get, the less you sweat the small stuff.3 points

I was just picking some cigars for this weekend. For me, this is the perfect large cigar. If I could have each marque in this, I would be a happy man 52 guage at its widest girth. Tapered length. fits perfectly in the gob. 90 minutes easy. Plenty of room for a great blend and the flavour journey is only accentuated by the taper. A Personal Perfect 10 for a "large cigar". in this case, a Cuaba Distinguidos. Build your own if you like.2 points

That's the whole thing, right? When I started the FB challenge I decided to walk. Never liked a gym. Rarely have any predictable time to go. HATE getting up at 0400 to "work out". But around work between cases I have lots of time... 1/2 mile walks at the beginning required sitting and stretching my back several times because it was just so painful.... Now after a month steady I can knock off a 5 mile power walk in 75 minutes. Not breaking records, but I'm way better off already. And occasionally a Cohiba Short falls into my shirt pocket and spontaneously combusts at some point along the route... ?2 points

Have to agree with the 109 as a favorite large cigar format but if I were to build a big Frankenstogie to see how it turned out, I would model an H. Upmann after the Arturo Fuente Shark. The cigar would be about 6" in length and would start off as a rounded parejo that progresses into a square press, tapering from a 49rg to 56rg. (Slightly less girth than the actual Shark) The blend would be a hybrid between a Sir Winston and a Mag 56...plenty of depth in flavor, but must retain that element of class. Ladies and Germs, I present to you the H. Upmann Frankenshark:2 points

I would simply chalk this up to an error in packaging, and not anything to do with the OP's vendor. Rob has posted plenty of pics here of boxes with seals misplaced, boxes missing cigars, cigars in box in different directions. Hell, it's Cuba after all. Nothing surprises me anymore with their crappy QC.2 points

I agree. The Princes are fine, but don't really stand out with so many other PC options. Try the du depute. I think it's a better HDM option in a slightly smaller format.2 points

I can say for Montreal the old stock is most likely due to lack of sales or interest. Prices are about as high as they can be for any place in the world...2 points

Been stocking up for years. No worries... just have been buying up what I enjoy to smoke in quantity. The writing is on the wall. Words of advice - Buy more than you can possibly smoke & you will avoid the future price increases, the discontinuation of your favorites that piss you off & the worst that can happen is you have too many aged cigars down the road. I have found that if I over stock I just sell a them to friends that are more than eager to take them off my hands. Buy a cabinet 3 times as big as you think you need & you are set. What worries?2 points

I love the feel of a Laguito #2 in the hand. It's about the perfect size I believe. But...if you're asking me to build my perfect large format cigar it would be a Mag56 with a tapered head. I will say, although I am not a fan of the taste of the cigar CA picked as cigar of the year--it is a very clever shape for a behemoth ring gauge. Here is one next to a Dip2 for comparison sake (just so you all don't think I'm off my rocker!)2 points

You're talking about pretty much the only model in an entire marca that's being regularly produced, so it's going to be hard to find anything similar. Kind of like asking, what other brand is most like LGC? Doesn't really work. Dip 2 would be the same way. Is there any other cigar in another brand like the Dip 2? Not really. I do sympathize--the Palmitas vitola certainly isn't for everyone. The PLMC is a similar situation in that it's vitola that's become popular because there are so few alternatives. With a full lineup for Por Larranaga I doubt the Montecarlos would sell anywhere near what they do. The MdO4 is the same. I will smoke them because the quality is so high, but it really is thinner than I prefer. If it were still around, I would probably prefer the MdO No 1 to the 4. And of course, I prefer the No 2 to all of them. The best we can hope for is that production on these resumes sooner than later. With what is shaping up to be an outstanding crop this year, I'm hopeful that many of the cigars that have been noticeably absent for the last few years return within the next 18-24 months.2 points

if a cigar is misrepresented then it is indeed fake. "Amigo, I have a box of cuban rolled piramides" is very different to "Amigo i have a box of Montecristo Number 2" first tender shoots? It has been happening since forever2 points
