El Presidente Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 We have been tossing this one around for some time ("tossing" being the operative word). Alain would set it up (you now know Alain ). Weekly or monthly live program with streaming feed for reviews commentary and call ins? Completely Habanos focused. Reviews, views, news, interviews, general chit chat and crap (Ken). Would love your input.
Evo03 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Sounds like a great idea. No experience with it, but I hear Skype works pretty well.
sje Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 i use Skype, it is invaluable when talking to my oversease clients, and i would be very much in favor of a "conference call" focusing on habanos, it would be awsome to do (pre planned) group reviews on a particular smoke, BUT group or conference calls can be a real challenge with Delays and drop outs, the more people who join the harder it is to not have people talking over eachother. but i would love to be involved spiro
Ginseng Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Very, very cool idea. I'm an amateur Skyper. Wilkey
Ellery Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I think its a great idea. I say give it a shot.
samb Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I have no idea about anything Skype related, but its a really unique idea. If it goes through and gets set up, I would more than likely get the Skype and get in on the fun.
Habanos2000 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 sounds interesting. You can't beat live theatre!
Jesuscookies Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I do, but Do I have to speak in English? No Yoss, you just speak Japanese and we'll all listen....
zuma Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Great idea... At work we have been using Skype for teleconferencing and, though it generally works well, a couple of times we have had a tad of annoying lag. It would work well as a live review forum with Q&A from the audience... and, hopefully, later uploaded as a video review (as not everyone would be able to tune in due to the usual time zone differences).
Tampa1257 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 The idea sounds good to me, while I have not used Skype before, I have used other teleconfrencing business aplications before. Is it possible to use Skype on a BroadBand connection onto the internet? I currently use Verizon Wireless BroadBand, which in my location has better service, connection and customer service than Time Warner Cable internet.
Smooth Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I too use Skype to catch up with mates overseas or interstate, it works very very well for me... One suggestion though if its going to be more than 5-6 people. You need a chair person of sorts to basically go: ok, now we hear from xyz, to ensure only one person speaking at a time... Other wise you will have people talking all at once and it will be an epic fail
Colt45 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Sounds good, but I'm still waiting for the online members magazine - launching April 2009.....
mkz Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Sounds good, but I'm still waiting for the online members magazine - launching April 2009.... Touché!
almudawi Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Excellent idea ! I am up for it ! One thing though, would be great if you guys could have it as a regular podcast too for those who wouldn't be able to make it for what ever reason. Thumbs up
maalouly Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 We are in the process of developing a conference application if you guys want to try it out let me know
Guest rob Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I'm keen to hear more and participate where I can. Sounds like a good initiative.
Stalebread Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 While I don't use Skype (but then, neither do I have a cell phone) I do listen to and watch podcasts on my computer. Generally, I like the idea of using technology to spread (accurate) information, help people communicate and stimulate involvement.
chuck1rar Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I have used various teleconferencing and video conferencing software and hardware but skype IHMO just does not measure up to be much. Maybe another open source option is http://www.dimdim.com/ using this with in conjunction with other tools maybe more beneficial..
thechenman Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I've tried Skype a number of years back, and was not impressed. I hear that it is now much improved, but have not bothered to check it out again.
