jroq3956 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I HOPE THIS STORY FINDS YOU IN GOOD SPIRITS DAD. I AM AN OPTOMETRIC SPECIALIST AND MY FATHER WAS A VERY ACTIVE HEALTHY MAN WHO LOVED LIFE AND CIGARS. WE SHARED MANY GOOD TIMES AND HARD TIMES TOGETHER. OVER THE YEARS MY WORK HAS TAKEN ME ALL OVER THE WORLD. BECAUSE OF THE WAY THINGS WORK MY FATHER AND I DIDNT GET TO SPEND AS MUCH TIME TOGETHER AS WE USE TO. THEN WHEN MY FATHER WAS 62 HE WAS HAVING HEADACHS AND MEMORY LOSS. I HAD HIM COME IN FOR AN EXAM, WE THOUGHT HE NEEDED HIS RX CHANGED ON HIS GLASS'S. I DIDNT LIKE WHAT I SAW AND TOOK HIM FOR AN MRI. WE FOUND A BRAIN TUMOR. I WAS CRUSHED!. THE PREDICTION WAS A 6 MONTH TIME LINE HE WOULD HAVE TO GET HIS AFFAIRS IN ORDER. I WOULD TAKE 2 WEEKS A MONTH OFF EVERY MONTH TO HELP MY FATHER PREPARE. MY DAD DIDNT HAVE MUCH MONEY HE WAS A RETIRED STEEL WORKER. I ASKED HIM WHAT HE WOULD LIKE TO DO BEFORE HE WOULD REST. MY DAD SAID 3 THING, HE WANTED TO GO TO ITALY, 2 HE WANTED TO ATTEND MASS AT THE VATICAN IN ROME, 3 HAVE CELEBRATION OF LIFE PARTY WITH ALL HIS FRIENDS AND SMOKE HABANOS. MY RESONSE WAS , ILL TAKE CARE OF IT. I WATCHED MY FATHER SELL EVERYTHING HE OWNED BECAUSE HE DIDNT WANT TO BURDEN MY MOTHER. HE SAID I NEVER SAW A HURST PULLING A U-HAUL! MY FATHER WAS SO STRONG IN HIS FAITH HE HANDELED THIS LIKE THE TRUE GENTLE GIANT HE WAS. WE WENT TO ROME FOR EASTER MASS AND THER WAS FIVE HUNDRED AND SIXTY THOUSAND PEOPLE CELEBRATING. MY FATHER WAS GLOWING. EVEN THOUGH MY DAD AND I HAVE DIFFERNT BELIEFS YOU COULDNT DENY THE POWER FELT THERE. WE ATE YOUNG SUCKLING PIG , DRANK WINE AND SMOKED WONDERFULL HABANOS. WHILE WE SMOKED OUR CIGARS MY DAD AND I HAD A PROFOUND DISCUSSION. MY FATHER TALKED ABOUT HOW AFTER HE TOLD HIS FRIEND AND FAMILY THE NEWS ABOUT HIS CANCER SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN MY FATHER LIFE THAT HAD DONE ILL TO HIM, HE HAD FORGAVE. I SAID I KNOW HOW TOUGH THAT CAN BE. MY FATHER TOOK A BIG PUFF OF HIS SIR WINTON AN SAID"THE HARDEST JOB HE HAD IN LIFE WAS RECONIZING GOD IN HIS MOST DIFFICULT DIQUISES.I SAID WOW , I HAD TO TRY T WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THIS. TRY TO SEE THE BEAUTY IN EVERYONE. MY FATHER WAS A GREAT MAN THAT NOT ONLY SHOWED ME HOW TO LIVE, BUT HOW TO DIE WITH GRACE AND HONER. ALL THIS OVER A CIGAR. MY FATHER DIED 6 MONTHS LATER AND I MISS HIM SO MUCH. I KEEP PHOTOS OF HIM AND I SMOKING OUR FAVORITE CIGARS. MY FATHERS SPIRIT LIVES ON AND ON IN MY HEART. WHEN I THINK OF HIM TODAY, I THINK I HOPE I COULD BECOME HALF THE MAN HE WAS. I HOPE THIS STORIE REACHES OTHERS AND REMINDS THEM THAT EVERY DAY AND EVERY MOMENT WE CONNECT WHILE SMOKING OUR FAVORITE CIGAR IS A GIFT. A GIFT TO BE SHARED! JB

tugboat Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 jrofla, I am very sorry for your loss. Your father sounds like he was one of those who will never be replaced on this earth. "RECONIZING GOD IN HIS MOST DIFFICULT DIQUISES" was indeed a profound statement. I will pass those words of wisdom on in his honor. I lost my father last February suddenly and reading your thoughts remind me of him. He was 78 and was very close to the church like your father was. He was my best friend. Love and support from friends and family is a must right now but only memories will carry us through this. I'll have a cigar tonight and will remember my father and you. Take care.
El Presidente Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Called my father just now to chat. Condolences for your loss and thank you for the reminder.

Jesuscookies Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 What a touching story. And as others have mentioned, cherish the moments and people that make life so special. It's all we really have, after all.
riderpride Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Thanks for the share, and I offer my sincere condolences. My girlfriend's father passed away 15 months ago due to cancer; I have a lot of respect for the man, and I certainly miss him. I find it difficult to imagine the passing of my own father; when I looked at him through the eyes of a child, he was simply indestructable... I think I'll ring him up.
greenpimp Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm gonna smoke a Hoyo DC and call my dad today.

demiurgic Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 "THE HARDEST JOB HE HAD IN LIFE WAS RECONIZING GOD IN HIS MOST DIFFICULT DIQUISES" Truly an important and difficult task, albeit a worthy one. God Bless him and keep him for striving to be a true human and forgiving toward those that hurt him. My Condolences.
