Just wondering how you guys handle your cigars when you are smoking in your typical setting. For me, almost all of my smoking is carried out on my front porch, typing or reading. I find it relaxing and satisfying to keep the cigar gripped between my teeth almost the whole time. This lets me keep both hands on the keyboard and I can puff and sniff almost absentmindedly as I go. What do you all do?

As much as I love the taste of a fine Havana, holding it in my hands, admiring the construction and feel, watching the burn, greatly adds to the enjoyment. I'm not a fan of keeping it in my mouth as the smoke tends to burn my eyes and I find a wet cigar end rather disgusting (personal observation there, to each his own).

I second that, I like to watch how my habanos burn. I only keep it in my mouth if I'm doing the BBQ and that's not for a long time.

In my hand also (Oh you mean the Cigar :o )That as well ;)

yea, the smoke definitely gets in my eyes if I hold it in my mouth. I prefer to hold it in my hand.

Hand guy here as well... but I wish I could get it to stay in my mouth for while I am doing yard work or playing the banjo.

Thinking about getting one of those harmonica holders that guitar players use, that would keep it dry as well between puffs.

Really depends on where I'm smoking:

Car: Mouth and hand

Walking: Hand

Porch: Hand and Ashtray

Riding Lawn Mower: Mouth

Hunting: Mouth

Fishing: Mouth

I have her always between my fingers B)

I like to hold it always, even when smoking a Churchill, as I just love the feel of silky-smooth wrapper between my finger tips while drinking a scotch.

Most of the time, I smoke when I'm grilling. I entrust my cigars to my Stinky when not taking a puff. Luckily, I don't spit in it. B)

Definitely the hand. Even after so many years, the smoke burns my eyes if kept in my mouth.

definitely hand, though 'gripped' a much too strong description.

and as for where fishing, try as i might, i just cannot manage to do both at the same time, not properly.

Looks like I'm the lone "chomper." Mind you, I use my teeth and not my lips primarily for grip. The head stays dry as if the cigar were solely in my hand. Although, the humidity from my oral cavity does tend to soften up the wrapper leaf at the head.

Good question Wilkey.

For me, smoking a cigar is a total sensory experience starting with the selection process. Looking over the cigars to see what strikes my mood, enjoying the smell of the humidor as it prepares me for what is to come. Rolling a few sticks between my fingers to see what 'feels good" in my hand and listening for any wrapper deficiencies ...then a slow run under my nose with a deep breath to confirm the correct selection.

The cutting & lighting are the continuation of the steps in creating the perfect smoking atmosphere....and to maintain this moment, holding the cigar while smoking it is essential to me. The look & feel of the cigar changes while it continues to burn as does the aroma of the smoke...and I can't realize this if it sits in an ash tray or resides under my proboscis. The evaluation of the taste of the draw is just one of many cognitive perceptions of this ritual.

Conversely, when I'm cutting the lawn, I keep it in my mouth and chomp on the thing like a piece of beef jerky, spitting out chunks in front of my mower so they get sucked up in the bag while the smoke burns the **** out of my eyes.

So I guess it depends on what I'm doing at the time.

That was the single most entertaining and edifying post of the thread. To be honest, I've got quite a drool issue when I smoke while yard-working. Still, I enjoy it just as much.
