Well stated and 100% true. I agree with the fact that both the candidates are flawed. I also agree with the notion that Bush has governed like a fiscal socialist. By the time a career politician has reached the level of Presidential candidate, they have sold their soul to the devil so many times it's impossible for them to govern effectively. I am also sick of 2-3 years of campaigning... how the hell are these guys getting anything productive done in thier first term? McCain is old and out of touch, any little respect I had for him was lost during the debate where he gleefully explained his plan (over and over) to buy up all these homes about to foreclose, and "adjust" the value down to current levels so these people can keep thier homes! Just because my loser neighbor bought outside his means, he gets a 40% discount on his mortgage when he can't make his payments? Obama is the "boy band" of Democratic candidates... all style and no substance, it's like he was assembled from the spare parts of assorted liberals... He's going to raise my taxes and trample all over my 2nd Amendment rights. I have seen more socialism in the past month than im my commercial life to date. McCain's pitch to "rewrite" housing loans is another bailout and Obama's tax the $250 crowd to help those on struggle street yet another. Whatever happened to letting people/corporations FAIL. It has been quite a central part of capitalism to date...you plan...you try...you fail...you learn..you try again. As a capitalist concervative greenie socialist (I believe in safety nets) who has never received a cent from any government...ever...I wonder how every other small business guy out there is feeling watching the capitulation...BAILOUT...of failures. There were at least 100 people there to vote, where usually there might be 20-30. Was only in line for about 30 minutes, but my district was one of the shorter lines. You and I see eye to eye on the market as we’re small business capitalists. I have not listened to any of his pap, but I as I understand B. Hussein Obama’s plan is to redistribute my money. As business owners do you and I absorb taxes? Of course not. The irony is as a defense contactor my increase goes right back to the Feds. If it becomes more hassle than I care to deal with I can liquidate and be quite comfortable. Were I to do that the unemployment line will gain another twelve souls with an even two dozen dependents. That would not be a decision made lightly as I care more for my employees than loathe the Feds taxes. My secretary at age 32 is beside herself with worry over Obama being elected. I can only console her in that I felt the same way when Carter was elected and from his miserable failure in the Oval Office came one who was arguably the greatest president of the 20th century. I’m proud to have been a Reagan Democrat. We survived Carter, we survived Clinton and if he’s elected we’ll survive Obama. I feel for the affluent boomers who have little recourse to shift gears in their autumn years and see well earned savings sifted away if he’s elected. My greatest concern however is the uncertainty my boys face. At eighteen Michael is already so disaffected he didn’t want to register to vote. He changed his mind, thankfully. What you cannot possibly sense from abroad and is only spoken of here in muffled tones is the underlying racial tension that is most palpable. I’m no social prognosticator but my sense is this one issue will tear more at the fabric of this nation than all the economics of this election year. As most here agree, I’m tired of all the BS rhetoric, happy to have the day come and just as happy to see it go. Whoever wins you know I’ve invested off shore; more method than madness. I hope to host you there sooner than later, kicked back on the deck, soaking up some CA sunshine and enjoying one of Habanos’ finest. No matter what, having this many of us vote is an incredible thing. After decades of complacency and low voter turnout, this is the most meaningful result of the election to me. I am happy for it to be over and things seem to be going smoothly from all I hear. May the best candidate for the job win.
