Favorite Sizes

This is a bit of a re-hash of a topic that's been discussed here before, but it's something

I've recently thought about.

Let's say you're starting a new cigar company. What sizes would you first produce - not every

size you'd eventually want in the line, but your initial "must haves". Mine would be:

Carlotas

Marevas

Corona Gordas

Dalias

Julieta No.2

Strong consideration given to / first new additions to the line:

Minutos

Parejos

corona

dalia

robusto

corona gorda

lancero

and MAYBE a DC. of course i would have a second band on the DC, blend 4 YO aged filler in it, present them in a very nice shiny lacquered humidor and charge OUT THE ASS FOR THEM. :-D (even though they didn't cost much more then the robustos to make)

I think this depends on the target audience and the 5 below are most certainly not my favorite sizes but ones I think would sell quite well. Is this is for the US market or if this is with cuban tobacco for the non us market? I think that you have to have a few large RG cigars in there for mass market appeal.

1. Robusto

2. dalia

3. Petit Belicoso

4. corona gorda (50 or 52 RG)

5. lancero

well, i realize one must keep in mind "the market", but i think worrying about that too much is a bad thing. just look at the **** they are doing with our lovely cuban cigars (i.e.- the new possible montes). i feel if solid good tasting cigars are made then they will be bought. no matter what size they are. "trendy" **** isn't what keeps real cigar smokers coming back for more. i would prefer to make cigars that real smokers would come back buy to time and time again.

Interesting topic

In no particular order:

1) Robusto

2) Petite Corona

3) Double Corona

4) Piramides

5) Corona Gorda

1st El or limited edition cigar - Lancero.

Bruce,

What is interesting to me is that more and more of the Non-Cuban Manufacturers are now produceing thin ring gauge cigars such as the Lancero. It appears to me the Altadis is the tail wagging the dog when it comes to popular size cigars. For a time the trend was large Fattie Cigars, now the trend is coming full circle and it is trendy to smoke a Lancero again. Maybe Habanos will follow the trend again for us real cigar smokers.

I have always enjoyed a good lancero. They seem to have more flavor, probably because the percentage of wrapper leaf is greater than a fatter cigar. They also burn with less problems. When LFD came out with the lancero, then Oliva V, the cigars were generally much better than the rest of the line. But I do prefer the feel of a fatter cigar.
