Popular Post david9985 Posted Saturday at 09:53 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 09:53 PM I enjoy trying to time the ashing until it's on the verge of dropping. So when I nudge it on the ashtray it's already just about falling off before any pressure is even required. It doesn't matter all that much and I don't get upset when it falls on me some of the time. This was a SP Belicoso from last week. I think it fell on me ultimately. All good fun! 😃 7
Popular Post Dlowil Posted Sunday at 03:13 AM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 03:13 AM Monte Double Edmundo - Caramel, chocolate milk, and a touch of salted malt—like dessert with a side of leather. A cool draw, steady burn (until it got ideas), and flavors that kept me hooked. The ash? Hung on like it was unionized. I let it ride out of pure superstition( Although I do believe it provides me with optimal flavor)…Eventually it bailed… all over my lap. Zero regrets. 6 1
riderpride Posted Sunday at 04:09 AM Posted Sunday at 04:09 AM I struggled mightily with this 48. Easily the worst I've had in terms of construction as it looked to have an odd bunch on the right, but dog-legged left off the start and it wasn't a humidity issue as the box has been properly rotated and kept a solid 65rh. I tried to keep my ash as long as possible, but today's efforts weren't in vein as she straightened out after the first ash. C'est la vie. 4
Çnote Posted Sunday at 04:46 AM Posted Sunday at 04:46 AM I often get better flavors after ash fall on something like a SCdLH or MC. Conversely, something like a Cohiba or HdM DC I'll keep the ash as much as I can as the flavor is better with the insulation. Regardless, I'm going to get covered unless I'm paying attention, which is rare. 3

When I first encountered this flavor I was intrigued and delighted by the novelty. That delight has worn off and now I am disgusted by the flavor and the bitter profile it accompanies. Great ash though! It didn't fall until the half-way point. I wonder whether this is the general consensus on the Galanes? I am curious as have never tried. Big fan of PLPC. Also see how dark the ash is, several re-lights perhaps?

It was the just the flavor that was problematic. I've only had sticks from this box, and since they are all tainted by the Damascone issue, I have no idea what type of flavor to expect from a "normal" Galanes.
Popular Post eaglebear29 Posted Sunday at 03:39 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 03:39 PM I enjoy a long ash but if it falls it falls. I’ve heard it works as a heat sink and cools the cigar but I have no idea. Wondering what others' thoughts are on this. It’s fun when ya get a long one, or my favorite when it goes in long perfect 3rds, then ashes itself. It’s a great reference as well in making sure I’m smoking nice and slow watching the burn lines. Always a little bit of a bummer when I have to recoup the cigar for draw issues and It falls in the process. Again though no big deal. First Monte #2 (2 years old) for my late father’s birthday at Hidden Falls. What an amazing cigar. 6
Popular Post Capn_Jackson Posted Sunday at 04:16 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 04:16 PM Somewhere between fanatically and mildly, tbh. I never knock an ash off early, as I want it there to help keep the tobacco as cool as possible. If it’s reached the “Tower of Pisa” leaning point, I will usually gently try to knock it off, though. Fuente Short Story with an old friend and bandmate. Cheers! 6
TacoSauce Posted Sunday at 05:29 PM Posted Sunday at 05:29 PM I always thought that Perdomo should Bourbon Barrel age some Cameroon wrapper and have that as an option in their BBA lineup. Perdomo, however, only flirts with Cameroon once a decade in some special release option. I got my hands on a couple of singles from the last time that Perdomo did this and it was not what I expected. Instead of sweet Cameroon goodness, I got a dark, intense, pepper-bomb w/ only a hint of nuttiness. Quite an intense experience for a decade old cigar. Ash held on for approximately this long. 3

Popular Post teamrandr Posted Sunday at 10:14 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 10:14 PM I like the way the ash looks. It really isn't a big deal but I prefer it stays intact. I could care less if I ash on myself. I'm outside by myself 99% of the time. 8
TacoSauce Posted Sunday at 11:02 PM Posted Sunday at 11:02 PM My second ever Lusi. After an extensive routing with the PerfectDraw, I got it in proper drawing order. However, despite its excellent burn performance, this was a mild, mild cigar. Mostly tasted of nothing, with only the occasional Partagas note popping up. Reminded me of a Mag 50 -- giant cigars with little flavor to offer. Ash wasn't impressive in this case. This was the longest I was able to cultivate the ash on this smoke before it would fall. 3 3

Popular Post DennyPaul Posted Monday at 09:03 PM Popular Post Posted Monday at 09:03 PM I try to let the cigar tell me what to do. If it stays on ok, great. If not, better in the tray than on me. But I don’t let it get much further than 2 inches generally. I have no idea how people are able to have such a long ash, but it’s sure impressive and I’d like to learn. Best I could do with this flaky cigar this weekend. 5
Popular Post TacoSauce Posted Monday at 10:01 PM Popular Post Posted Monday at 10:01 PM Yesterday, I besmirched the name of the Mag 50 by assigning it to the bin of "large cigars that provide little flavor." Maybe I was being unfair? Only way to tell was to try a Mag 50 today. This cigar provided a very consistent flavor of peanut butter toast delivered at a mild-medium body. Even with this mild-ish profile, it had heaps more flavor than yesterday's Lusi. Also kept a better ash than the Lusi. Here's as far as I was able to get it before the fall. 5

I just finished the last of a 2019 box that I smoked through too soon. The turn happened at the 4 year mark and they blossomed. I just bought a couple boxes that won’t be cracked until 2029. 4
Smatthews607 Posted Monday at 11:16 PM Posted Monday at 11:16 PM I find the long ash to be distracting. And it invariably falls onto me at the worst possible time. So this is about as long as the ash gets. Maybe 3 ashes a cigar on something the size of a Punch 48 like this. Keeps me and the deck clean. And the Mrs. from yelling at me. 4
Popular Post Dlowil Posted Tuesday at 12:07 AM Popular Post Posted Tuesday at 12:07 AM Sovereign Sun for the win. Have had these for about a week (couldn’t wait the 30 days). Beautiful stick Delicious rich chocolate Confectioners Aroma Ash One shirt ruined by this contest! 4 3
TacoSauce Posted Tuesday at 06:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:46 PM I don't think they make these KSGs anymore, but I have a few left and I love 'em. Sadly this was slightly plugged until I finally pulled an offending vein from the head at the 2/3 point. While the flavor could have been better, the ash performance was great! 1
