Popular Post Superhans Posted June 21 Popular Post Posted June 21 Cigar 4 Strongly flavoured cold draw and a deep cocoa scent. 1/3 Rich and extremely tangy citrus opening. Best start to any cigar I've had in ages. Delicious. Draw could be slightly better but burn is flawless. Medium body, slight spice, flavourful. 2/3 Very enjoyable cigar if a bit one dimensional. At the midpoint the draw gets restricted. Flavours start to get bitter. 3/3 Absolutely no progression in profile. Second half is just bitter tobacco and a real slog to get through. Shame. Medium throughout (maybe slightly under by the end but likely because of the poor draw). This one could be anything. First third was fantastic but ended up a disappointment. Will smoke a recent JL2 to compare as seems similar. 6
pohlmad Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Perfect evening to have cigar #4. Unfortunately the cigar did not perform. On the cold draw I noted a very sour taste, one I haven’t had with other cigars. First third was full ammonia flavor but I pressed on. Into the second third, the ammonia transitioned into a bitter sour, similar to the cold draw. The cigar instantly went out 3 times in the second third and I ended up quitting on it. I have quit on a cigar maybe 3 times in my life which shows how significantly this underperformed. That leaves me in a total guess scenario for my pick! Unfortunate but we know this can happen with handmade products! 1 1
GavLew79 Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Behind the curve, but just smoking no.3. Mild start, creamy, rich, hint of youthful bitterness, but slow puffs quell it. Quality wrapper. Well filled, if a little overfilled. Rested at 60% RH for quite a while now. Cedar, toast, subtle honey, hay. Gonna go in high.

Did not get the normal flavor, but at least I did not select D4 in the last 3, small consolation. Wife thought it was funny I was so off, since I was bragging about getting the first 2 correct, probably should have waited until after. I swear someone swapped my #2 with a Boli 😂 1
Popular Post TheDonTX Posted June 23 Popular Post Posted June 23 Missed you all for cigar 3! Just could not find the time with 3 kids and life happening. Still have not looked at what it is! Giving it a go after cigar #4 this week to guess for myself. Cigar 4: Wrapper is beautiful. Its oily and silky smooth. Looks a little Cohiba’ish. Man, I don't know if the wrapper is making me lean CORO but it kinda tastes like how they start. The first third is screaming CORO to me. Not a mind blowing one but its got some hints. Im telling myself no but it just does. The second third gets a little lemon zesty maybe. Some kind of fruit in there. Is it the RyJ light cherry? Or it the fruitiness I get from JL2? It feels a lil too dark for JL2 tho or at least compared to the 1/4 box I have been slowly getting through for a few years. Coming up on the final third as I write this and I don't think its Cohiba at this point. This cigar is very enjoyable. Its changed slightly and has great Cuban twang flavor. The finish is sweet and long. If I pulled it from my box of CORO I wouldn't be blown away like some of them but also would not be mad. Would El Pres put a Cohiba in there? I think he would to test everyone and show us all we have no idea what we are talking about lmao. I have no idea what cigar this is. I was so confident with 1 and 2. Got 1 right and 2 was way off. My guess is being sent in now. 5
joeypots Posted June 23 Posted June 23 #4 Going to be tough to guess this one. After a good rest at 60-62 rh I ditched the last third because the flavor was terrible and it was a chore to go that far. Odd because it looked good and smoked beautifully. Definitely a Cuban cigar that needs time down if it's going to come into it's own but I wouldn't bet on it. There is a line of Cuban cigars that has been panned pretty consistently on this forum. That Robuso is my pick. 1
El Presidente Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 We are into the final stretch!!!!! Get your picks in for cigar number 5! All reviews welcome 1
GavLew79 Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Cigar 5. Beautiful ripe Cuban tobacco. Sweet, creamy, spicy, savoury, aromas of biscuit/cookie, cinnamon, cedar, hazelnut/cashew can't quite decide. Medium bodied, medium full strength. Delightful. Could be any of them. A1 construction.
Superhans Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Cigar 5 Hard as a rock. So over packed the Perfecdraw didn't even make a dent. Wish I'd weighed it as there was an enormous amount of tobacco stuffed in. 1/3 actually managed a semi decent draw for all of 10 minutes. Dry cedar opening - actually pretty tasty. Slight spice, coffee, nutty. Bit too wispy to get much but what's there is pleasant. Draw then completely closed up so had to ditch it. Complete punt. Maybe a VR Famosos but really could be anything. 1 3
El Niño Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Cigar 5 On the light, I got a lot of good cedar and sweet cream with a bit of orange peel. Going into 1/3, that cedar sat back and opened into orange honey with a hint of cream and caramel. Going into 2/3, it hit a bit of a lull. Then, it opened back up with a big caramel and orange peel with a hint of cool spice like fennel/anise. The last 3rd was nice too, but I had to put it down go get ready for work. I'm gonna guess Por Larrañaga Picadores. 3

I had a very similar experience. Not a cigar I'd personally load up on myself. 85-86 for me.

So close 👌

Popular Post griller Posted June 29 Popular Post Posted June 29 Cigar #5 First, thanks FOH for allowing me to be a part of this tasting. It has been a lot of fun & I've learned a lot from everyone sharing their reviews. Whether I guess #5 right or not (and out of all of them this one is a COMPLETE guess), I am amazed at the diversity of experiences that come from each cigar & palate. So, here goes... My example had a very slight box press one one side of the cigar with a light to medium brown wrapper. Immediately noticed at the foot that the fill was pretty full, which probably played a big part in the first negative of my cigar: dreaded tight/poor draw. It wasn't plugged per se, but I like my draws to have just a slight to medium pull and this one required multiple puffs to get any kind of smoke. I misplaced my PerfectDraw a while back & that came back to bite me today. Next came the uneven burn. I fought this cigar for 30 minutes with constant touch ups from my torch to try to even out the burn. So the overall experience from a construction standpoint hit a 2/5 for me, which didn't to the blend any justice because the smoke got hot within 10 minutes as I fought this little bastard... So what did I get out of it? Hits of cocca, leather, earth, and unsweet tobacco. That was it from start to finish, throwing in the "hot cigar" flavor you get when you're having to draw every 30-45 seconds to keep it lit. Total smoke time was maybe 35 minutes and I tossed it (the first pic was taken about 2 minutes before I gave up & threw it in the bushes). I've smoked all of the Hermoso #4 cigars in the current catalog at some point in the last 10 years except for one (RG CdL) and this example was unlike any of them that I can recall. If I had a box I'd hide it in my humidor for at least a year. So I'll guess possibly a VR Famosos or RG CdL, but I could be way off. Pretty sure I'll be 4/5 once the unveil happens on Tuesday but that's just fine with me. This has been a blast & I'd love to do another blind tasting if offered. 8 1
Popular Post TheDonTX Posted June 30 Popular Post Posted June 30 Well here we are, sadly at the end. This has been one of the funnest things I have done in the whole cigar hobby. FOH team thank you for doing this. Very much appreciated. As always, all of you are awesome and this forum brings me lots of joy. Lets dive in… Cigar #5. Slight box press. Lighter wrapper. Rough’ish looking. Pre light lots of cedar. Smells great! First 3rd: Draw was tight but not terrible. Smokable but I like it a little more free. It was tight around the band so a short stab once from the perfect draw took care of it. Hint of black licorice to start. PLPC mongrel funk. Earth and moss’ish. I think El Pres calls it forest floor? Kinda getting the typical VR flavors. Burnt sugar darkness. No wood, no cream. Just leather and earth as well. Leather like a new belt leather its strong. 2nd third: Like an F1 car braking to a stop this abruptly turned on the next draw. Bam, out of nowhere it changed. Nice twang and a hint of cream with a little orange peel. Not super creamsicle but a few puffs were. I remember reading the other reviews that mentioned orange and dang there it was. That little orange hit. Didnt last long but it was there for a bit. Reminded me of my wife's natural oil air thing. I dont know the name of the device and not looking it up lol. Final 3rd: Leather, tobacco and earth. Nice cigar. This whole time its reminded me a little bit of the JL2 last week. The lingering hint of a PLPC is interesting. This is a size I am not familiar with. I think time would treat this cigar well. Very sad for this to end. What a ride. Its been fun! 7
