Drink Pairings

  1. 1. How do you roll when it comes to drink pairings? (vote & discuss further below)

    • I pretty much have a singular go-to routine/pairing that works for me with most sticks
    • I specifically vary my drink pairings based on the stick and other factors
    • Not something I care about too much, will roll with whatever/no drink

I clicked the wrong option by mistake - there is only one dance partner for a cigar around here...

Guinness and my lab are my favorite and most common pairing.

Simple, I drink sparkling water with a cigar. Hardly ever anything else. I can definitely appreciate how a bourbon or a rum, or sometimes even a stout, can enhance and accompany a cigar very effective

Carbonated beverages and smoke feels weird to me, makes me feel like I have pop rocks in my mouth.

If it’s very very fizzy, that can happen. I’ll tend to have a glass full of ice with the sparkling water. As the ice melts, it dilutes it some, so it’s not quite “pop rocks” fizzy. Anytime I happen to have an actual soda of some kind with a cigar, though, I do get what you’re describing and don’t like it. Just some mildly fizzy sparkling water won’t do that to me, though.

I usually drink plain olde water with a cigar. Nothing fancy.

I normally have a black coffee and water with a cigar. I don’t put too much thought to it though and will often have whatever takes my fancy.

I normally just prefer to drink what I like at the moment with whatever cigar I feel like smoking.

In the morning or early afternoon, it will usually be an iced coffee or water. In the evening or night, it’s whatever my alcohol preference is at the time, scotch, cognac, beer or sometimes wine.

Nothing wrong with water, but I would steer clear of "olde water."

I grew up down the shore from where the Pilgrims landed. Everything is olde.

Ah yes. The olde water from that area is so interesting, it has its own webpage:lol:

I grew up in Arkansas. Don’t know how many times I drank “ye olde water” directly from campground water hookups as a kid, but enough that I can still remember handling the pumps, and the taste of the…ye olde water.

Interesting question.

If you had of asked me a few years ago I’d talk about all of my go to combinations depending on time of day and mood and the CC chosen. But after a few years away and a couple of kids later I now rarely drink more than sparkling water, I just really want to delve into the cigar flavour profile and progression and I find that satisfying enough.

In a social setting though I still have a drink with one. Cannot beat champagne and an aged D4 for a celebration and absolute class.

Garden hose water is the best tasting in the summer!

My regular go to is a category - Tequila - but not necessarily a specific brand. I typically select what to pour independent of what I’m smoking, but occasionally I will select something specific if it is warranted. Usually on the side of something not so hot if I know the cigar I’m smoking is on the lighter/more delicate side. Usually, though, it’s more of an “I like that, so I’m going to pour it; and…I like this, so I’m going to smoke it.”

That said, I’m not married to tequila every time. I’ll mix in a Negroni, gimlet, wine, scotch, rye, coffee, or whatever else may be suiting me at the moment.  I just usually reach for the agave.

Favorite time of day for a cigar is morning or early afternoon, and I like it with a latte. I’ll typically keep a sparkling water with a little citrus nearby for refreshing the palate. Evening smokes typically paired with any dark spirit, cognac and Irish whiskeys may be my favorite for a touch of sweetness. Did a lot of root beer zevias but apparently stevia isn’t good for the gut!

I voted the 3rd option, but I don't put a lot of stock into it. I do love a morning coffee and a cigar. Most of the time I make sparkling non alcoholic foofoo drinks. Those pair pretty well IMO.

Depends on the time of the day that I have the stick. Coffee, sparkling water, beer, rum, champagne or whatever is going works fine.

Coffee or water with a Juan Lopez no. 2, SLR Regios or El Rey Choix Supreme.

2 ounces of Russell's Reserve SIB with a Bolivar Belicosos, Monte no.2 or Diplomaticos no.2 (evenings).
