I'm one of the few that feels The Pacific was as good as Band of Brothers. The issue with The Pacific, which is also plaguing Masters of the Air, is the disjointed, and often repetitive nature of the series. The Island hopping was disjointed, and seemed a bit repetitious (which I bet those who fought in that theatre would agree). The European Theatre had the most drama (as horrible as that drama was), making Band of Brothers the most extreme.

I'm finding Masters of the Air is falling WAY behind the two, but I also know I'm in the minority who things The Pacific was really well done, and as good as Band of Brothers.

Many of the best have already been mentioned. Here are a few lesser known that I did not see. Some may seem a bit cheesy, or chickish, but entertaining none the less.

If not considered a classic now, it should be. The Highwaymen. Not vintage.

Hobson’s Choice

Across the Pacific

The Day the Earth Stood Still

The Haunting

The Palm Beach Story and It Happened One Night…. One more light hearted number, A Touch of Larceny. One of my favorites. Vera Miles is stunning in this movie across from James Mason at his best…

plenty of cracking films mentioned since my list.

what about adding Key Largo!

i don't think anyone has included a John Wayne film - shame on us all. Rio Grande, Horse Soldiers, Hatari, Searchers, El Dorado, Man who shot Liberty Valance, Red River, Rio Bravo, Commancheros, Sons of Katie Elder, Chisum. so many more.

All great movies and don’t forget McLintock.  It has cigars and whiskey throughout!

Just started The Gentlemen on Netflix - hoping to revisit Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels & Snatch. Might try revisit Memento as well the next time I get a weekend to myself.

Love early Guy Ritchie. While Lock Stock and Snatch are great, I wanted to like Rock n Rolla, but it was significantly worse albeit still worth a watch. Layer Cake isn’t Guy Ritchie but a great film of similar style (and great sound track and peak Sienna Miller).

With ya - Guy Ritchie fell off my radar after Snatch. I didn't realize he had done The Gentlemen movie and had no idea he directed/produced the series when my wife decided to put it on. I was really enjoying the first episode and couldn't figure out why it felt familiar until I saw the credits 😂

On a related note, I've gotta add some Tarantino to the thread. I enjoy 'em all, but need to dust off Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction soon.

I feel BoB was enhanced by those fantastic interviews of Easy Company. But they are both solid and I have the entire set on DVD. I may have to watch soon but I have to be in the right mindframe.

Memphis Belle is the best WW2 Bomber movie. So very good!

Masters of the Air is a disappointment - at least in comparison to The Pacific and Band of Brothers.

Yeah I wish there was more air stuff from both world wars. A redo of the Battle of Britain would be welcome. So would a modern Dambusters film.

I like MoA best merely cause it deals with the air war which has always been my main interest. But BoB was awesome and it helped that the squad had a campaign to follow and also were bogged down in battles for weeks on end which helps build a cohesive narrative that makes for far more appealing screen telling. The Pacific (which I still like) and MoA had to snatch from various battles and missions which ends up through no fault of their own as coming across as disjointed. And I don't really know how you'd get around it.

I was watching "In Harm's Way" last night. The last WW2 film to be shot in black & white. Not a bad film, with an all star cast.

i'll concede pulp fiction is a good film but since then, tarantino has basic proved himself a one trick pony who has made fools of his fans and ripped off audiences with utter rubbish. can't see myself ever watching another of his films. death race was a farce, purely designed to take money from the audience. surely the worst film ever. i think the bloke is a fraud and a disgrace.

on a more positive note, we seem to have ignored paul newman. the sting, butch Cassidy, the hustler, cool hand luke, colour of money, turn curtain, a heap of others.

Not sure any of his other movies beat Pulp fiction.  Death Proof was not my cup of tea as well (note to self: never use absolutes ;)).  But, enjoyed his run post-Death Proof. Inglourious Basterds, Django, Hateful Eight and OUTIA Hollywood are worth checking out. He's definitely got a style, which can be a bit much at times. But, I dig it nonetheless 🥂

On a more comedic note, I've gotta add Caddyshack. Lost count of how many times I've seen it and it still cracks me up.

I'm a Tarantino though I haven’t seen Death Proof. True Romance, directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino, is one of my all time favorites.

I watched the first few episodes and I'm already bored. It started kind of fun but doesn't have the same quality writing and swag as the original movie (which was great if you haven't seen it).
