Is Thailand safe in your opinion ? - based on recent events

My 22 year old son is going with about 4 friends to Thailand in 3 weeks.  As a parent I'm worried about this with the US State Dept advisory... I've been reading about how safe in general Thailand is for tourists... 

 

N.B. I'm not wanting to turn this into a political discussion...

I will be there with Di come New Years eve. Love the place. Your son will be fine.....normal common sense applying....but he is 22.....which is where my mental age lies.

I'd think it would be totally safe.  I'd remind your son to not make a spectacle of himself. Have some respect and restraint once the booze & drugs start flowing.  Easy to let your guard down.  If her body is super fit, she may not be a girl.

Other than that should be a great experience as long as common sense and respect is employed. I've been several times and love it. The food, even street food is amazing. The people are very kind and welcoming.

I don’t think Thailand will be an issue.  I did know some friends who did some Mideast travel in the early 2000s and got a Canadian flag patch for their backpack.  
 

I wouldn’t think that is necessary though at this time.

If he is going to ride a motor scooter/vespa type bike make sure he knows how dangerous those things can be. Thailand is full of motor scooters and tourists get hurt and worse riding them all the time there.  No joke.

Tell your son to beware of adam's apples if he doesn't want an unwanted surprise 🍆 hahaha....he will have a blast! Thailand moon parties and drinking buckets are what you should be doing in your 20s.

I guess you have never heard of a tracheal shave. Quite common surgery in Thailand.

I've moved here a few years back and love it. The Thai people are very friendly and welcoming. I've heard most of those warming were due to things along the southern border.

I've never felt unsafe traveling around Thailand or exploring the city at night. Like any big city, trouble can be found, but I feel like it doesn't come looking for you here. You have to find it. As long as they have basic travel etiquette, they should have no issues.

Thailand is as safe or rather safer than any western country i have ever lived in!! I am Canadian - and I find myself loving this country more by the day, the $$ arbitrage is phenomenal, the people are amazing - food is cheap 

the so called horror stories you have heard, are people coming here, getting drunk and doing stupid thing either in cowboy, soi 11 or nann-ers

there's a whole amazing country out there - i spent covid here and decided to not move back.
