Popular Post dominattorney Posted August 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 18, 2023 I'm posting here because of the crossover message. Criminal defense lawyers have a hard life sometimes, but it's fun when the good things come back to remind you it's a job worth doing well. I won a postconviction case for a guy who was sold down the river by his first lawyer 3 years ago. We call those kinds of clients "friends for life" and I'm lucky to have made at least 7 so far in my career. Guys and gals out there in the world who, but foe the sleepless nights, would be rotting in a prison cell. Anyway, this guy swings by as I'm leaving and drops off this box. 😆 Looks legit. But knowing the source, it came out of Cuba. I can say that with 90 to 95 percent certainty. i post this here because, like many situations involving cigars, what matters is the gesture. The guy is straight to make a preacher blush even. Doesn't drink or smoke. Just provides for his family. Somehow a family member was coming back from Cuba so he told them to get his friend for life the best box on the island. In many ways he has succeeded, no? 18 1
treberty Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Some fakes can be good. Got some for similar reasons and they were not bad at all. Give it a try! You never know. 1

You never know. I'd never not smoke one. Or all of them. The defense investigator, bondsman, and legal expert are all gonna have a meeting tomorrow and try one. Cigars bring people together. Haven't seen two of those guys since we won the case.
BrightonCorgi Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Bring box the and dig in with your legal team. Great gesture from your client. 1

Popular Post GVan Posted August 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2023 Fully agree with the sentiment! Had a very good friend that helped me get ahead in business when I was young. Likewise, later, I helped him get promoted at his company. Many, many years ago he brought me a box of Cohiba's back from Mexico. One look and anyone in the hobby would have known they were fakes (at least it didn't have the plexiglass-glass lid). Every year for 3 years he asked how the cigar were - and of course, I told him they were Cohiba's and still aging away in the humidor (which they actually were) and I thanked him for the box. As careers go, we parted ways but then about 5 to 6 years later I met him at an industry conference and surprisingly he asked how the cigars were -- I told him great and there were still a few left. He seemed happy about that answer. Once I got home I tried one - they were ~ 12 years old and absolutely the worst cigar I'd smoked in the past year. Out of respect for my friend I kept them another 3+ years hoping they'd mature into something smokable. One evening when my son and son-in-law were visiting I told them the story and we broke out the box so all three of us could try one. Vegetal dirt, no one finished the cigar, we all laughed and I finally pitched the box. The important point is the story and the friendship the box of Cohiba's represented that lasted for ~ 15 years and here I am telling the story again - probably another 10 + years later. As I write this, I can still visualize his face excitedly gifting me the box. I clearly remember telling my son's the story and all of us really trying to like the cigars because of that great story and laughing about how terrible the cigars were -- What could be better than that? My view, he or she that dies with the most great stories and friends wins !!! 4 1
dominattorney Posted August 21, 2023 Author Posted August 21, 2023 Love the story @GVan. I tried one from my box and they were actually pretty good. They do taste cuban, and given that my client and all his family are from Cuba, I presume they are at least cuban tobacco. 2
