Fireball Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Generally I have heard CCs are stored with a rh the mid to lower 60s, while NCs are stored with an rh in the higher 60s. I decided on the getting Carlota, although I do really want to try all of them at some point. I do not smoke often though, so for me, some of them may rest for a while. What is a good rh for the nudies? Or does it even matter outside of personal preference? I know it’s NC tobacco, I just realized from the FOH videos with Hamlet how little I know about tobacco in general. So I figured I would ask. Thanks.
HoyoFan Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I've been storing the Canonazo's at around 65% which is what I store pretty much everything at. Smoke one after the recommended 30 days of nap time, and it fired up and burned beautifully. 2

I've stored all at 62 and while the new batch hasn't rested sufficiently, I can say 2021 nudies are smoking great and have been kept at the same RH. The N3 and N1, so same viola as you're looking at @Fireball Ron 1
Chibearsv Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I think Rob mentioned keeping them at 69 RH For me, the goal for all NCs in the storage tupperdor is 65-67 RH CCs goal is 62-64 RH Temperature is always around 65 4
El Presidente Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 My home humidor for NC is at 65% My work humidor for NC is at 69% On this 2023 edicion of Nudes, I can't tell a difference 3
BigGuns Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I'm sure you'll get the gamut in responses but I had originally stored them in the high-60s and found they smoked better when I moved them to the low-60s (62-65). My $.02, which can be worth god knows any given day 2
targa88 Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Take it for what it worth = free advice. My general experience with CC/NC and farm rolled is that lower RH% works better for me 65% is the max - tend to prefer lower around 60-62%. 2

But fun still. No? I'll try some at a higher RH and see what happens just because. 1
GVan Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 My 2021 Nudie Rosado Carlotas entered the office large humidor naked on 03/15/22 for a 60 day rest at 62 to 63% Rh and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Stored with all the rest of my NC's and CC's that are ready to smoke. Smoked one at ~ 60 days and my notes said to let them rest a while longer. It smoked beautifully, no burn or draw issues but the flavors weren't ready yet. The Maduro Lanceros were the first to really catch fire with the flavors and were my initial favorites of that years line of Puro Desnudo cigars. By November of 2022, about 8 months later the Carlotas caught fire and I wrote Rob that I've now been reaching for the Carlotas more than the Lanceros. The Carlotas are the closest NC I've got to the typical Partagas flavors. Also the sheen on the wrappers seemed to become even more pronounced with the additional rest and 63% Rh (see the picture below from November '22). As many have said - each to their own preferences and palates when it comes to storage conditions. The 2021 Carlotas are my number one go to smoke right now when I want a NC. 4
Fireball Posted July 22, 2023 Author Posted July 22, 2023 Probably because we are all too anal about a bunch of stuff that isn't as important as we think? But fun still. No?Very fun. I don’t smoke cigars that often. I love the look, feel, and aroma (both lit and unlit). I also love collecting them and geeking out on weird aspects of them because, that’s just me. And then on the occasion that I do light one, I watch the smoke roll off of it and think of all of the knowledge, work, thought, and patience that went into crafting the cigar and growing the tobacco, . Centuries of learning that resulted into what I have in my hand. Since I don’t smoke a lot, i wasn’t going to get nudies. However, when I heard Pres and Hamlet talk about all that went into their creation, I had to add them. 4

Grady Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Is anyone aging their nudies in the factory cellophane (as I've been told some people do with their R&J cazadores in the factory foil) or is everyone "disrobing" them first?

A little bit of a mix. The PC's and Lancero's are aging in the wrapping that came from FOH. Once they are ready to smoke, they'll be unwrapped and have their own space on the bottom shelf of the humidor as shown in my picture above. That's where I keep my most often reached for CC's and NC's that are ready to smoke. The Canonazo fit perfectly in a Warped Cloud Hopper 53 cabinet that I had so, those are aging inside the wooden cabinet in the humidor. Also, as a 52 ring gauge that means I'll likely reach for those a lot less often since it's a 2 hour smoke. So the cabinet seems more appropriate for storage. I really haven't seen a lot of flavor difference in my humidor set-up between cabinets, dress boxes or open storage. Might be because I have four very small fans (2 top and 2 bottom) that moves the air along the sides of the humidor very slowly. Usually no differences in Rh top to bottom or side to side (picture below). My Canonazo's hit 35 days yesterday so, I pulled one and tried it. Pretty much the same report as everyone else - very smooth and a good cigar. But, I think I'll give it to > 90 days before I try the next one and let the flavors develop. 8

Cheers, and what a gorgeous setup! Is this a custom build or factory-built model that you installed? 1
GVan Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Custom Build - always wanted an office humidor. So when I built my new house -- I sort of over did it!

No. I trashed the wrapper. Serves no purpose for storage. 1
Ford2112 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I store my singles free . They way they were meant to be!

It's gorgeous looking...well done! Curious question - with the double doors how did you get an airtight seal? Do they have a locking mechanism that pulls them together with a strip of weather stripping?

Exactly - weather seal around all 4 sides in the cabinet that the doors press against (see picture #1) On the inside facing edge where the two doors meet there is a groove with weather stripping on both doors (see picture #2). The left door has an internal catch mounted at the bottom that holds it in place firmly against the weather stripping of the cabinet (see picture #3). The right door has a small lock that holds the doors together and keeps the right door firmly against the cabinet weather stripping. I had my doubts about the humidors ability to hold humidity steady when it was built. Does a pretty good job - nothing as good as @PigFish would have created. The Oasis humidifier is hidden at the bottom behind a slotted piece of cedar that is movable for when I need to fill it and placed such that it blows humidity up the left side of the cabinet between two Spanish Cedar pieces of wood that hold the shelves in-place (see picture #5). From there, 4 very small fans circulate the air in a clockwise pattern. The Oasis really only runs when I open the doors to get a cigar. I think the humidor also maintains good Rh because of how loaded the cabinet stays - the Spanish Cedar, CC's, NC's and all the boxes act as a buffer against large Rh changes (see picture # 6 from my Govee) 5

A full humidor is a stable humidor. 1 1
