Who's excited!  VR Headsets.  Meta Quest 3 / Apple Pro Vision

Now I am not a Debbie downer. Hell, I am glass half full ......more a positively overflowing sort of guy. :spotlight:

I love tech. I don't understand much of the backend, but I use it and use it relatively proficiently.

I am not an early adopter. More an early majority (and drifting) on the curve.

VR....bring it on. I can see the  entertainment/educational/communication benefits.

Personal problem however.

The only thing I want on my head is my sunglasses and the occassional hat when at the beach/fishing. The thought of putting on the deep dive goggles of Apple/Meta makes me want to run to the back of the "adopter curve".

Am I the only one?

Would love to hear your thoughts on the VR rollout/future.

Agree the biggest challenge is most people don’t want to wear them. We do a lot of 360 cameras for real estate virtual tours and other B2B applications that you’d view on a device which is a huge success. We tried to add a consumer angle and even at shows people were very hesitant to put on a headset and would instead look and move the image or video around on their phone.

Yes indeed it might have overestimated the size of my robusto in the VR world ;) but quite the experience

No thanks, just not for me. I've worked for a company that was on the forefront of BIM (Building Information Modelling) about a decade ago and it was useful on very complex process plants, like ethanol production, to make sure you didn't have pipes bumping into each other, etc. But for the vast majority of construction projects, even that level of 3D detail is over kill. In most cases it was more of a "flex" for the company's sales team, until the outsourcing started and pretty much everybody could generate the models.

The "Big Four" already have our clicks, text searches, eye-tracking and conversations. Headsets will tell them what we look at, for how long and in what order, with ads coming based on "doughnuts or waitress".

Get people comfortable wearing headsets, ready for a subsequent generation of them, and thoughts are next.

I can't wait.

While I have tried out old versions and have been quite impressed. I truly don't envision myself ever getting anything until it becomes a whole lot less cumbersome. I don't want to wear the goggles/headset. Having said that, the possibilities are endless in regards to VR. Give it 10 more years and I may be jumping in the pool then.

As a Tech person, I find this stuff interesting but merely a novelty.  There will be some practical applications of this I'm sure, but I as a tech consumer have no interest in it.  As I get older, I need less things screwing up my eyesight.  😜 These will find a niche, but not widespread use IMO.

Yes, bring on VR goggles, so we can all walk around in a dreamscape where the outside world cannot intrude. Who cares if the world has gone down the toilet, as long as VR can give you a place to escape to. Bring on the tech zombie!!

They’re a lot of fun!  As a nerd, I’m always keen to try out the latest and greatest.  Thing is, it’s still just a toy.  Nothing about VR should even touch a workplace or any task needing focused long attention.  I can last about 20-30 mins in my headset before the headache sets in.

Augmented Reality will be the way of the future.  The notion of a relatively regular pair of glasses that can function like a HUD as well as go opaque to become a more standard screen.   We’re at least a few generations of hardware away from that kind of gizmo.
