El Presidente Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I had a question regarding residual glue and fingerprint on cigar bands. How common is it in your experience? While I have seen it many times over the years, I wouldn't call it common....or is it? 2
Paladin865 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Sometimes, I wonder if it glue they use to hold the band or cement?
gustavehenne Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I've not really found this too much on Cuban cigars and many non-Cubans although with Fuente sticks I get this an awful lot (e.g. 5:1). They seem to heap pectin/glue on their cigars and in a lot of cases, the glue is stuck to the band which is also stuck to the cigar. Disaster. It doesn't bother me too much unless it causes the stick to unravel.
Rhinoww Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I have yet to see it much, and more specifically as noted above, it’s really only an issue to me if the band is stuck on the wrapper. I have yet to have a CC with a wrapper glued to a band. I tend to tear my bands as opposed to slipping them off, so if there was an issue, I would get an unpleasant surprise once my cigar was underway likely rounding into the final third
anacostiakat Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Yea. I don't find this to be a problem often in cuban stock. Try getting the band off some of the old Opusx.

miked6dmike Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I got a box of Escogidos that had so much glue on the bands AND the cigars themselves I thought someone had sneezed boogers all in the box before sealing it up. Mostly it's pretty minor, but that box was the exception. 1

Low Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Had a friend try to take his band off a undercrown shade early on the other day, and his whole cigar unraveled. Looked like a murder.
BrightonCorgi Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 4 hours ago, El Presidente said: ...now they are just taking the piss At least there is a pattern. I always ask for boxes to be inspected or I looked at them myself before buying so I haven't see any of these before. A friend got a box of Cohiba Robustos with everything wrong on the box, but they were the best cigars (from a known source about 15 years ago), so go figure.
NSXCIGAR Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I get some extra glue dabs or overglued bands occasionally. Can't say it's happening more or less than it ever did.

MisterCigar Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I haven't had any glue residue or fingerprints yet.
Cigar Surgeon Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 On both the NC and CC side I'd say it's uncommon, bordering on rare. Fingerprints are pretty rare, but I reviewed an NC just a few weeks ago that had a clear cigar glue finger impression on the wrapper. Too much glue on the cigar band is a fairly common occurrence for me. Perhaps as many as 1 in 15?

Tunkat92 Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I can say I rarely have a problem with cuban bands most peel off easily. But I just opened a box of Bolivars PC and stick had so much glue it was stuck to the cedar sleeve bled through the cedar and stuck the cigar below to it also
eg133 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I would say 9/10 times, Cohiba bands have been difficult to take off. Doesn’t matter what vitola or even LEs, I pretty much just expect them to be ripped off. I’ve only had about a handful where the band came off easily and I was beyond ecstatic like a boy in a candy store.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
