Have done numerous trades…only on FOH… with no issues at all. Thankful for the opportunities. 🍻

This situation turns to chalk it up and hope it works out in time. Otherwise, don’t lend what you can’t afford to not get back. Have to view it as gone the second it leaves your hands and move on……....to trading only on FOH… ☺️

On a related note, if did do a trade on FOH, how do we give points or what have you to the other party?

this is actually quite interesting.

assuming the bad faith trader provided his actual mailing address (which we assume he/she has, as the OP sent the 10 cigars), I'd be popping it into google maps and making sure it is a real address (not a PO Box).

I'm assuming the bad faith trader has used an incorrect mailing address, or a po box (which should have been a red flag).

BUT if this is wrong, and the OP has the legitimate mailing address of the bad faith trader, holy fuck. The opportunities are endless. Delivery pizzas at all hours of the night. Signing up the address for the most ruthless mailing scams...truthfully so much could be done know the address that I have to assume the OP doesn't have the correct address of the trader.

Cause if they do, personally, I'd have more fun than the missing / stolen cigars are worth.

Worse advice possible.  You are aware that the other person has this person's address as well, yes?

You can, and should leave trader feedback. You can read people's feedback and evaluate whether you should trade with them or not. Very valuable tool on here.

Irrelevant. War is hell, and he started it.

Agreed, but the last time I checked our feedback has been erased to zero with the last update of the site. It's a very useful tool.

Also useful. Zero level is fairness at its best.

How so? Feedback rating shows that those of us that have had transactions within the FOH site follow through with transactions in good faith. I, personally look at this rating and want to enter into a trade/split with someone who has followed through in good faith.

Well, looks like @Lomey was spot on.  The 'Feedback' section on our profiles has been deleted 😞  I had 34 positive trading feedback ratings and now there is nothing.  This was a cool feature that let me see if my trading partner had a positive track record here on FOH for trades.

I haven't really traded with but one person and he is a FoH member. It all started over a cigar conversation and he sent me a full box of the discussed cigars to try, not knowing me from Adam or expecting anything in return. THAT showed me that this member was a man of integrity and I had not doubts about trading with him. A couple of other forum members have just out of the blue sent me cigars as gifts and I  always send them something in return as a gesture of my appreciation. This is the  way I see to establish trust and build friendships with fellow smokers, creating possible future trading partners. If you don't know who you're trading with, just plan on the cigars you are sending as being a gift to a stranger and not expecting anything in return.

Here is my take

  • What should the  guy do in this situation?

He could ask the trader for something else instead that he does have instead of the Don Carlos. It sounded like if this person was being honest and he was still waiting for the Don Carlos it could be rectified by sending something else instead. Based on the current value of the sticks it should be a LOT of something else.

  • Have you ever been in a similar situation?

I have been stiffed on a PIF before, but not burnt on a trade like this. Back in the day the community had the "Scumbag Trader List" that included the person's forum handles, real name and address, and account of offense that got them on the list. It was an easy reference of folks to stay away from.

  • What is the best way to protect yourself?

The best way to protect yourself is to only trade with people you know personally. Outside of that he could trade on a platform that vets members or has a trader score/identifier that allows members to build up reputation.

It is relevant. Would you be willing to escalate the situation to the point firearms may be used and somebody gets shot? Over a few cigars? C'mon man, if you are an attorney certainly you KNOW some folks will snap when backed into a corner. It's not worth it.

I am reluctant to post who I have done a trades with or sent me cigars without them asking me to do so.

Well, I've gone and done it again with my big stupid mouth.  Apologies to all who were offended by these two posts.  Let me try to explain my reasoning.  For starters, my participation in this thread has been glib from the start.  The reason for this is I personally find this issue to be petty, and therefore undeserving of serious consideration by myself.  In reviewing the other posts on the subject, I recognize that not everyone agrees with me, which is fine.  I should have kept my remarks to myself so as not to derail a discussion that others wished to engage in in a serious manner.

Regarding the feedback being erased, my perspective on this was that it re-sets things to the level of zero, giving all potential traders the same opportunity to be taken at face value.  Let's take me for example. I have no trading reviews, and don't really wish to participate in trades anyway, but if that changed, I would want people to trust me despite not having multiple reviews of positive experiences.  I have made purchases and sent gifts to and from people on this site.  I honored my word in my messages, and the other party honored theirs.  It was a pleasant experience.

I do see the value in ratings for people who are interested in more serious trades, especially trades involving rare or valuable items, so take my observation with the grain of salt for which it was intended.

This was an overtly glib remark that I made, again without giving due consideration to the fact that other people may take this topic far more seriously than I do.  Clearly, no one in their right mind would recommend actually getting into a middle-school style prank war with this other person.  I do not believe @Hammer Smokin' was serious when he suggested that pizzas be sent repeatedly to their address, and I engaged in this line of thinking to the level of reducto ad absurdem.  The suggestion that firearms would get involved, while to me an absurd proposition, is sadly not outside the realm of possibility in our current climate.  Clearly, I would have been better off, and the thread would have been more productive, had I kept my remarks to myself.  For that, I apologize.

I do not apologize for holding the views that I do about this subject, but I certainly did not mean to derail a conversation between individuals who take it more seriously than I.

I've been in some trade situations that took months (folks I won't trade with again). I'd keep reaching out and see if there is something else he has that would satisfy the trade then at least it isn't a total loss.

In the meantime DM your addy and I'll send a couple EOTS care package to keep Trader karma on the positive side.
