This was a a great recent deck  discussion.  The things we miss or are going to miss shortly.

Things from our childhood/adolescence that while may not be gone entirely.....are on their way out be it technically or culturaly.

I love living in 2022 and know full well how things such as tech have enhanced our lives. Still, there are plenty of things that I miss or will miss shortly as I can see the writing on the wall.

In no particular order, post up one or two

The Comics section of a newspaper. Home delivery of a local daily is increasingly rare, and fewer papers than ever bother with a section that doesn't sell ads.

But I've always loved the comics, going back to when I was a little kid. I would wait all week for the color comics in the Sunday paper; I'd press Silly Putty onto my favorites and play with the imprint over and over.

Makes me think that the pre-smart phone, pre-cell phone era must have been amazing!

It had its ups and downs.

Imagine waiting in line for something, for example!

I miss the days before intrusive social media. I’m not some Luddite who can’t acknowledge a certain value in how social media opens up new avenues of human connection across physical distance, but the way the profit motive has infected those services to assault you with content designed to glue you in, introduced the scourge of “content creators” desperately vying for your attention (and filming themselves - or you, in public - to get in on a slice of that pie), yeah we’d be better off without it but it’s not going away now.

Cartoons made for adults.  Rocky & Bullwinkle, etc.  Pre-cancel culture tv.  Archie Bunker, In Living Color!

I don’t think these are on the way out. Bojack Horseman, Invincible, Bobs Burgers etc all still very successful and I can always see that type of program being viable if good.

I have only ever driven a manual.

What I miss most . 4WD beach dives . They were magic. Now we have to go out further and deeper each year as the under water landscape disolves.

Miss those days terribly. They were grand 🌴😎

Definitely VHS and Blockbuster. The cheapest easiest way to record something, and have it on something tangible. I have a digital movie library now, and I hate it. I need to have an app and be connected to the internet. Also, blockbuster was so magical. Going to rent a something, browsing videos, and actually watching them with the fam. We rent videos online now, but it's just not the same.

I remember those!

Try a plex server. I ripped all my bd, DVD, and even old vhs to it and it runs on my home network. Premium plex is a lifetime purchase with free upgrades and free isn't too bad itself and neither are  subscription bases. Its all your own content. One of the best moves I have made in my home theater

Get to valet park in front without having to tip extra

I get that without a manual transmission, but I have to substitute it for a 'backseat driver'. Last 3 times we valeted my wife's AMG, I'm the asshole that says 'leave it up front'. The valet gives me the look and then glances past me at the wife and she has the 'wife look'. Guess where the car remained? 😂

Staying on topic however...more simplistic than comic strips, the newspaper itself. I am a technology person, yep a nerd...but I don't enjoy reading newspapers on my Mac, iPad, or iPhone. It just isn't the same. Never mind it's the best way to clean glass...

I was digging thru some old boxes I have down in basement storage. Came across the old board games. Sorry, Clue, Monopoly etc..Brought back memories. Likely will never be used again. Miss the simpler days!

*I never thought I'd see Silly Putty referred to again in this century!  How we enjoyed our Silly Putty pictures and play with them to death - stretching them, squeezing them, etc.!

Just showed my 3yo how to do this today! He was so excited about it he refused to go to sleep without a ball of silly puddy in his hand. Of course I took it out once he fell asleep only to have him wake up and leave his room crying and asking where his silly puddy went.

Irreverent humor.  Off color, politically incorrect jokes.  Olde fashioned bravado and lighthearted ribbing.

As long as I'm alive, we shall still have these. 😅

Real paper, fountain pens and Japanese pencils. Nothing beats a new Rhoda pad and full tank of ink. With Docusign, I haven’t executed contracts with a pen in a year.
