Cigar connectivity

I had this conversation with a mate earlier in the week.  Let me know if this resonates with you. 

You have tried a cigar over and over again and just "never got it".  You read others reviews and experiences on this cigar and wonder if you or they are on another planet. 

Then one day you smoke one fo these cigars and SHAZAAM.....you get it....every bloody bit of it.  The cream is there, the citrus/stonefruit/durian...whatever. 

Interestingly? from that cigar on.....you "get" those flavours/enjoyment pretty much every time you light that particular cigar. 

It is all a little like a bluetooth connection. You can be scanning/searching for a connection and it can be frustrating. However once your signal is locked on......connection is consistent and stable.

RASCCs for me--didn't "get it" until they hit the five year mark--and then I couldn't keep my paws off them.    Fortunately I stocked up when they were dirt cheap.

Monte 2, and that seems to be a common one with tons of people. I feel like the first few were just a standard Cuban, nothing special to be had. Had one from a 2021 box a few months ago and baby, I've seen the light.

I'd like to revisit SLR.  Never had one I was crazy about, but would love to be convinced otherwise.  Would love a trade if someone has a few they think are something.

Recent RASS. Would like to revisit Upmann 46 but don't have the patience to let them rest. And pretty much dismissed RyJ overall but would like to try the Churchill again and wide Churchill and see how my palate has evolved. Cheers.

Every Bolivar cigar in my humidor. It took me a long time to connect with this marca but now I look forward to each one I sample from time-to-time.

Cohiba Siglo IV.  The first fiver I had took a long time to acclimate or come around. What? Huh? Really? Meh. Oh, now I get it! Haven’t looked back. Haven’t sampled any recent ones but I think Cohiba needs more time than most Cuban cigars to shine.

This hasn’t happened to me. I have yet to find a cigar that’s taste hasn’t changed, but I’ve acclimated to it. For a while every RyJ I had (mostly lower end) were a big meh. Bad boxes? Wrong blend for me? Not sure. But then I grabbed a box of Ex 4 from FoH and every one has been a banger. 

But who knows, cells are always regenerating; taste changes, allergies come and go, my flowing mane continues to grey.

I am waiting for that moment with a box of HdM LH de Rio Secos, I have tried three over the past 8 months and they have been awful, I was hopeful last night would be different, I gave up halfway through. I have 22 more chances to get that connection…🤞

I remember reading in a thread (on our forum) whereby @rcarlson mentioned that these need two years to 'come around'. Of course I am paraphrasing his point, but I did find that the last time I smoked a HdM Le Hoyo de Rio Seco, it did indeed turn around for me (after the two-year mark).

I have never been able to connect with any Bolivar.

Trinidad Fundadores. Bought a box and probably smoked 8 cigars before I finally had an enjoyable experience. Since then, all good.

D4 never cared for them. Until recently now i love them. Same with BBF. Never liked them till recently. 
Funny folks say this about the Rio Seco. Opposite for me. I’ve loved everyone I’ve had over the last 6 months or so since i started smoking them.

i am quite happy if folks continue to poo-poo the rio seco and san juan. surprising availability at reasonable prices.
