MoeFOH Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 MoeFOH's Album of the Week 🎶 Same as the movie thread, each week we're going to spotlight an album... be it a classic, new release, hidden gem, or outright turd... and open it for discussion: i.e. post up your favourite tracks, clips, lyrics, experiences if you saw live, etc... or dive deeper and give us a critique on why you think it's great, overrated, or a complete train wreck... And finally score it for us...  All contributors go into a monthly prize draw for a 3-cigar sampler! PM me with suggestions if there's an album you want to nominate for next week's discussion.  Week #15: Rumours Wiki says: Rumours is the eleventh studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 4 February 1977 by Warner Bros. Records. Largely recorded in California in 1976, it was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut. The band wanted to expand on the commercial success of their self-titled 1975 album. The group recorded the album in the aftermath of relationship breakups among its members and heavy drug use, both of which shaped the album's lyrics. Recorded with the intention of making "a pop album", the album's music included considerable pop rock sounds, characterized by accented rhythms and electric keyboards such as the Fender Rhodes and Hammond B3 organ. The album was postponed by delays in the mixing process. Following the album's release, Fleetwood Mac undertook worldwide promotional tours. Rumours became the band's first number-one album on the UK Albums Chart and also topped the US Billboard 200. The songs "Go Your Own Way", "Dreams", "Don't Stop", and "You Make Loving Fun" were released as singles, all of which reached the US top 10, with "Dreams" reaching number one. Over to you... Who's a fan? How highly do you rate this album? Thoughts, memories, experiences, favourite tracks...? Post em up! Score it out of 10! 1
Ford2112 Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 It's a great album. I'm a big fan ,especially of Buckingham. What a unique player. Christine doesn't get the credit she deserves. Stevie was hot then. Now she is like an old sheep when she sings. I would give it a 9 simply because I seldom listen to the Mac with the chicks. More apt am I to dig out old Peter Green material. 2
RedLantern Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 9.5 for me, I think I'd give the white album (Fleetwood Mac) a 10, personally. Ironically, my wife and I included a LOT of songs from Rumors on our wedding playlist! IMO one of the best songs wasn't even on the original release: Â Probably my most-listened to track is "I don't wanna know" or "Never going back again" 1
Chibearsv Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Fleetwood Mac has grown on me over the years. If you turned the radio on in the late Seventies, you were going to hear songs off this album. Comfy chair, smooth cigar, and Rumours is a really good combination.
La_Tigre Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Listen to the full album at work all the time. 9/10 with there being not much room to give it a 10
Doctorossi Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Hmm... I don't know if I could give this one a number, it's so ubiquitous and cemented into pop culture. It's definitely great and a landmark for what it is and Buckingham is always on point. I don't know if I would ever put it on, though. 1
bassistheplace Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 10/10 how they wrote and recorded a song about either 1. hating each other 2. being in love with someone else i'll never figure out it is a pop masterpiece. even Lindsey's production is a benchmark
